Because killing people and taking their belongings IRL is frowned upon

To test myself against different opponents and odds. I most certainly do not care about my kb but I love to destroy people who do :-)

Honestly just do it because its fun and I especially enjoy the teamwork and things that my team can accomplish on the battlefield.

My favorite moments in EVE are some small-gang fights where our fleet was out-numbered and out-shipped but we still managed to punch above our weight-class and come out on top. Nothing is as awesome as your DPS pilots firing on all cylinders, effectively spreading ewar and tackle while following primaries, all the while as your logistics pilots do a hero's job of holding reps while they fight through occasional jams and neuts.

First and foremost PVP is about affecting the game world. That can be a slight diminishing of hostile forces (a "kill") or outright destruction of assets by sieging them. Somewhere along the line one guy decided I want X and went out and got it. The meta game is all about creating conditions, the gameplay is all about handling your ships / squads / fleets well, scaling from frigate 1vs1 to capital warfare. To me PVP for "fun" is practice for the real thing: safeguarding your assets at home and kicking ass along border lines as best as you can. Depending on where you live what constitutes a "border" is off course variable. In our case our geographical location allows us to be dominant in a certain market and do some market PVP.

I started out as a simple pirate, rather making less money from ganks / kills then PVE all day. Turned out I like the metagaming stuff too, so my philosophy is a little less black-and-white as the OP's proposition. Right out there in the middle of all these connected mechanics I want to be the guy that says I want X and creates content along the way. I's a healthy mix between PR and PVP.

3. I can ruin someone's day because they care too much about #1 & #2. I enjoy the thrill of hunting someone down and executing them with style. Some light RP makes it humorous to me, but very annoying to them.

A little of both really. I don't care much for KB stats but there is always a drive for that wtf killmail where you dunk a Proteus with an Atron. But those situations usually only happen because the Prot pilot was a bad. They are fun to laugh about but not really that satisfying.

I will take a 1 on 1 frig battle with a skilled pilot any day. Win or lose, its about the moment for me.

I like to destroy other ships to reinforce my ego that I am good at PvP.

Unfortunately, I suck. Therefore, I continue to play the game until my desire to prove my skill to myself is satiated.

"i died. I mean... i died on purpose. i meant to do that."

I like that philosophy.
