Hi guys I've got an idea for ship maintenance arrays.

Ever since ive used a POS(player owned star-base) ive noticed that the SMA is very handy but can also be very irritating with its range of use restriction where you must be within 3 km of it to board/launch a ship.

I have seen the error message countless amounts of times where it says your are at 3013m from the SMA and you must be within 3000m to access it.

A simple solution to this that doesn't involve increasing the range SMA would be to make it act like a cargo container, where if you go to board a ship and you are out of the range you are simply are set to approach it automatically until you are within range to board and then you are boarded automatically.

I feel this doesn't really have any negative impacts as it is not changing any attributes of any POS module but just make using it a bit easier. I know there's many things that POS's need done to them to bring them up to date with the current game, but I think this might be a nice subtle improvement that could make POS just a little bit nicer and easier.

Let me know what you guys think.

Or better yet, make it so you can access it from anywhere inside the POS Forcefield like you can with assembly arrays now. The issue is also present in compression and refining arrays as well. I can dump an entire freighters cargohold worth of whatever into assembly arrays and start any job I want from anywhere within the POS. But I cannot compress, refine, or reship.

Lowering the average to make you look better since 2012.

I think this is an incredible idea!

Great to see other people feel the same way as me =P . Just got to hope a game dev see's this as i don't think it would be very hard to implement as all the necessary mechanics is already in place . It would essentially mean putting a loop where the game checks for your distance to the SMA and approach it until you are within board range(3000m) and board the ship.

A even easier fix would be just increase the access range as one of the other posters mentioned to maybe like 6-8 km or just make its access range the same as the towers force field range.

You See this is not what he ment it makes sense you have to be in range as to board a ship you need to be that close so the array should know if your close enough to exchange ships.

Stubs you just made cause you could fix it if given the chance :P

because its so hard just to double click on it from the cargo window Roll
