This will cover Salvage drones and Mining Drones only.

On each asteroid model in space, there are specific points where mining lasers fire. Bigger rocks seem to have more of these, and this makes sense. I would assume that wrecks have something similar, but I'll admit to not having a ton of experience shooting at wrecks. My change is to have Mining and salvage drones land on these points (reducing their velocity to 0) and salvage or harvest while stationary, then return with the goods. If there are no available points, the drone orbits until one becomes available.

1) what purpose would this serve, gameplay improve, or problem solve?

also, it wouldnt be possible, since the actual surface of the asteroid doesnt exist, the "surface" of th asteroid entity is often far above its physical/graphical presence as an invisible bubble in the physics engine, which is why its so easy to get stuck in asteroid fields

this is because asteroids are not static elements, adn therefore are represented in a similar way to stations/ships/gates, by a sphere, but this sphere must be much larger than the asteroid to accomodate some of the dimensions asteroids exhibit

I suppose it would make it easier to smartbomb the drones, or even take them all out by shooting the rock with a missile? They would be very close together, so a single missile might actually work. I think it's a dumb idea.

Can't you just ask for T2 salvage drones and not something utterly silly?
