I was thinking of joining a corp that is based on nullsec. I've been doing mostly missions/incursions so I kinda wanna try to get into pvp and ratting. I was curious how do you guys pick the right corp to join? If I end up joining a corp that isnt for me, how screwed am I? I know eve is kinda strict and will do all sorts of background check to make sure you're not a "spy" and what not. Having unwanted corp history could mean not getting into the right corp, So I feel like theres no room for error when it comes to finding the right corp. Any tips?

A few misses won't ruin your employment history, so don't worry about it TOO much. One good way to find good corporations is to look for corps that have a lot of people from the same region/state/country/continent you live in. Being able to meet your corp mates live is fun.

Grrrr Cara.

I wonder how OP didn't see the sticky about this though....

Also, if a corp dismisses you on ground of who you have been with in the past that easily. They aren't a good corp in the first place IMO.

A corp should always value the person behind the keyboard well above the corp history (unless corp history clearly shows he is a spy/thief/corp hopper).

Also, do a lot of research before you join any corp, don't just blind hop into the first corp that spots your interest. Keep searching, you might come across an even better match. Take your time, plenty of ways to be social while not in a corp directly.

Recruiter chiming in. As long as you are not trying to "defect" (join a corp to which your current corp is outright hostile) don't worry. Finding a corp can be hit and miss, so a few misses won't be held against you. Try to dedicate at least some time to one corp before moving on. Short, decisive lists look attractive, although lots of veteran players have a big list of ex-corps so I'm usually not too worried about it. As a new player you don't want to be in an elitist group with tight security and no content for newbros.

My best tip? Get on comms with people. It just has to click on a social level. The rest is sort of - whatever - emergent gameplay. I'd rather jump on comms with enjoyable people and do nothing, then do big spacebattles while listening to raging sperglords and inflated egos. Comms are all that matters, the actual game is just window dressing.

Definitely get on voice comms with people.

If your goal is to be a loyal corp member, being on comms with people will let you find out if you click with them.

If it's to be a disloyal member, getting on comms will help you to, as it's always the silent people that noone trusts. Make sure you ask silly (but not extremely stupid) questions, and create a believeable RL identity that influences the lies you tell.

Don't take a large amount of assets to null until you've lived there for quite some time. If you have 5b worth of ships in high, sell 1b worth of them, fly out to null in an interceptor or interdiction nullified T3, and buy new ships out in null. That will protect you from the worst of the damage a disloyal recruiter can do to you.

Most recruiters understand that a person ends up joining a few corporations before they "settle down", so unless you plan to join 10 different corporations in your first month without any "good" reason for leaving them you shouldent worry to much about it.
However, even if you end up doing quite a bit of corp jumping recruiters are often willing to give you a chance if you can provide a reasonable explanation as to why you left them.
With reasonable i mean something along the lines off... I did not like their attitude towards other players, requirements that you were not informed about prior to joining, reverse safari.. you get the idea.

But, do your research, use the guide that is linked further up, and dont rush into joining the first corp that is willing to accept you.

It's worth pointing out that these reasons are usually not verified by recruiters.

If you are putting on a persona in order to infiltrate a corp and want to explain leaving a previous corp, accuse your old corp of doing something that the persona you are putting on would find unconscionable.

For instance, if you wanted to infiltrate Red Frog (don't, it's not worth it) and wanted to explain why you left a previous small hauling corp, accuse them of talking in corporation chat about their gank alts.

So keep in mind that you have lots of options to fool recruiters. Sometimes honesty is the best policy, especially if you do not have much to hide. Sometimes it is not.

see if the corp has an open community/recruitment channel

join it, spend some time it
if you ask for tips/advice and get scoffed at, find some nicer & more socially competent people to chill with
