Password fleets

When you have a large blue list, it can be difficult to 'hide' a fleet from spies. With a large blue list, it is easy for them to join chat, see how many people, etc.

The recommendation from the esteemed Schwa Nuts is to allow people to set a 'password' on a fleet. You would set this when you put up the advert.

This would also allow neutral fleets to start up pretty easily, while still restricting which pilots can get in, making things like bombers bar or slosh roams to have more secure methods to do open invites.

And of course, easily defeatable by appropriate level spies.

Thoughts?

Day 1 from CSM Notes, Session: Corporations & Alliances

"CCP Fozzie also went over the social groups feature that they still have on the table, though not in active development at this time. Sugar Kyle brought up the difference between the idea of a social club vs a social corporation. CCP Fozzie agreed there's a difference, and that the Social club is a good way to put it to differentiate them. This would allow people to do things like a have chat room, mailing list, personal standings, allow things such as fleet finder adverts to clubs and so on. It would also allow you to belong to multiple clubs, and would have no impact on your corporation membership."

The answer I think, or at least part of it?

Yeah, maybe that is the answer.

Alternately:
(3:35:01 PM) schwa_nuts: kismeteer: as an alternative to passworded fleets, you can make a passworded channel for everyone to join, and the FC can just select/drag people into fleet

This works for social groups below 50, but relies on the FC being active, there, and attentive. Plus, people would have to be manually invited to the channel.

Imma go ahead and make the post about how you should reduce your blue list if it gives your trouble so it gets out of the way.

You may proceed with good discussion from here.

Particularly good point from someone in Caldari Militia, considering they have maybe the largest use of this feature.

The issue with spy in fleet comes from people being granted access to something like comms which then mean they can easyly make a "legetimate" request for any password of a particular fleet, especially in FW where SPROT is a 100% free to join corp that want to participate in fleet when we try to do something big (by FW standard that is) and we can't really say no as we need the pilots to fill up the squads.

You are stuck with the same problem with 1 more layer of protection because all corp/alliance under your banner should technically at least try to not harbour spies while we deal with a NPC corp.

Would you deny a password request to a member of 4S for example if he told you he can't remember it and his access to "insert whatever medium is used to hand password safely" is having issue?

We have squads and sigs that go through significantly vetting. so yes, we would deny them.
