The Rattler will likely be the best passive tank in the game with good skills. Why exactly are you going straight for pure passive tank though? Are you just looking to fly the biggest brick you can possibly find and run missions in it?

Depends what type of ship you want to fly, like a Battleship or Battlecruiser.

Drakes work very well with a passive tank shield (Extenders or resistance boosters), and the Amarr battleships (Especially the Abaddon) work wonders with a passive armour tank (Rolled plates).

For the Gallente, the Brutix and Megathron are also good with armour tanks.

Minmatar ships are better suited to going fast, with nanofibre structures and a MWD (Speed tanking is the best tanking imo)

The pie is a tautology

It was never mentioned that said passive tanking ship had to be a subcap, so...

Passive tank =\= buffer tank

A passive tank is a tank that relies on natural recharge to tank. It can only be done on shield fits, and generally works by having peak shield recharge > incoming DPS

Buffer tank works by having a combination of resistance and hitpoints to soak enough damage that opponents will be dead before hitpoints are all depleted.

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell.

The drake or the Rattlesnake will work best for passive shield tank. :)

and as replied to already, there is no such thing as a passive armor tank.

Domi can passive shield tank. Not the highest, but depends on what you want to do.

For what it is worth, we used passive resist but remote shield transfer Tengu for class 5 and class 6 Sleeper sites, where you can be neuted dry by a single battleship, and still tank >1500 DPS. Tengu have great resists, a small sig, and a bonus to remote shield transfer. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=385146#post385146

All the help so far has been awesome. To help clear things up, it has to be a sub. cap. ship. What i want to do with the ship dosent really matter as ALL i care about is getting the best passive shield tank possible. As far as i have understood the info so far in this thread the rattlesnake will passive tank the most dps.
