Use the compare tool and check the stats on many Meta 4 items. They are sometimes better then their T2 versions. Meta 4 items only come from drops. If you go explore or PVE in lowsec, nullsec or wspace you get better drops. Takes better ships to pull off too, but that's called progression. The rewards from grind will always be bad. You have to take some risk to make good ISK.

Looting is a bad habit. learn to Blitz. By the time you get to level IV the time you waste looting would have got you half way through the next mission.

that certainly used to be the case ... now with salvage, mobile tractor units, noctis, and T2 mods, it's MUCH quicker than the good ole days of running around after cans.

Only worth it though on the big missions.

Loot was much better in the past. It led to what is referred to as "gunmining". Looting to refine into minerals. Drones were great for that with their alloys.

Minerals decrease inflation. Or even generate deflation. Which is no good it seems.

The days loot is interesting, but mostly not worth it compared to just running missions/ratting etc. Salvaging is still a very easy and profitable income for a starting player tho.

You don't function in EVE for the loot. That's a perk. You function in EVE to bring about
the glorious supremacy of the Amarrian flag. (Some people never learn.)

Mission running is a good source of income in the game, loot is just a part of that income, you also get the mission rewards, bounty for the rats you killed, loyalty points that you can change for items, many sold at very good prices in the market and salvage from the wrecks of the ships you killed.

I'd be happy with the Shadow Serpentis copper dog tag if it was actually used for something. The idea that I have a Soldiers dog tag still holds great worth to me. It's one of those things I can't shake when I log in to the game.

Probably.
Except, then you're at lvl 4 missions - but can't afford any ship to run them with.

I know.
I'm at lvl 4 - without a ship to fly them with (and I actually did loot my lvl 3's..well, most of them anyway with some salvaging if I felt like it).

That gives you something to work for...or are you one of these instant gratification kind of people?

Since OP asked in regards to what blitzing was, and it hasn't been answered, "blitzing" a mission is when you kill only what you need to kill, and nothing else. The goal is to complete the mission as quickly as possible so you can get your next mission.

The reason for doing this is that the ISK rewards and the LP rewards generally dwarf any loot or salvage rewards, and with good LP conversion (SOE missions can easily achieve a 2000:1 ISK:LP ratio), you can pull 8-10 million ISK in 10 minutes' time with a blitzed mission.

In fewer words, the purpose of blitzing a mission is to get a large pool of LP as quickly as possible, which is where the bulk of your income will come from.

Lol Thats Pretty hardcore. I mean Im Hardcore and Passionate However I gotta get Paid Get ROI. Ive been gaming for over 20 years gaming for me has become more business than a Hobby these days. However I Understand and respect .I just Have a different motivation than You and Most Players in Eve. I wanna make that transition From Hardcore to Pro to actually get Paid for Gaming so my time is Money. And Blitz is the way to go However theres no real way of making money with eve unless you break the Rules and get banned.Thats why maybe Rats should actually drop real cash once in awhile.

In one of the beginner missions, you are given a frigate which you need to ram into a station which self-destructs...

What most people don't realise is that the station drops loot... equal to several million of isk actually.

I guess this has something to due with the fact the NPC loot drops are horrible. That they in no way seem to represent the NPC that we fight in game. I think something needs to be looked and improved, many people that want to try out EVE use this type of stuffs as their first huge interaction. #tinfoilhatbakon

1. NPC loot drops are not all "horrible." The more difficult the NPC target, the more likely it drops the shiny loot. Example: Today, with friends, we ran a 7/10 combat site in nullsec. We ended up with a few hundred million worth of loot in the form of faction module drops from NPC wrecks, in this case Shadow Serpentis NPC's that were the "primary target" of this particular site type.

2. The average NPC ship, compared to the average player ship, is a ridiculously easy target.

3. Plenty of player ship loot drops are crap as well. The Loot Fairy has a way of saying "NO!" to the juiciest modules and cargo sometimes.

4. Why do you expect some sort of huge windfall of shiny loot for shooting easy rats as a new player?

Note previous comments re: instant gratification. You may need to recalibrate your expectations a bit.
