I am looking at minmatar T3 destroyer stats, they are kind of weak, specifically sniper mode.

In sniper mode, arty reaches at 50km (barely) with dps of barely 100. Confessor reaches to 60km with dps 200 easily.

So, in sniper mode, what is the point of being able to target 120km+ when your arty barely reaches 50km with terrible alpha and damage?

Tracking is good I admit, but what can you do with 85-100 dps in sniper? Thats as bad as an interceptor and a whole lot worse then a confessor.

Ship only becomes decent when you load arty with EMP, thats 25-28km range @ 200dps give or take, thats good to take down frigates yes, but then what is the point of sniper mode? 120km targeting and a 33% tracking which you dont really need @ 25km engagement envelope?

Everyone and their dog will stay in speed mode and kite.

But most importantly, sniper mode looks the coolest - like a mecha robot from manga comics. Give me a reason to actually use it other then for visuals! Give me range instead of tracking bonus!

Four things...


1. Where are the stats? I don't see anything posted in F&I

2. Artillery is not about DPS... it is about volley damage.

3. Are you sure you are factoring in Falloff range in addition to Optimal? Projectile weapons in general operate best in Falloff range.

4. For a Confessor to hit out to 60km requires you to sacrifice many other aspects of the ship. Looking at EFT and based on my own experiences flying the hull... a sniper Confessor would be really terrible at just about everything other than sniping... which kinda defeats the purpose of the "adaptable" nature of the ship.

Falloff on this thing is very short. All the bonuses are for optimal. No optimal bonus in sharpshooter mode. Only tracking. MWD sigRad bloom reduction in defensive mode..., so I can go fast, or it can be harder to hit under MWD. Pray you don't get scrammed.

Doesn't even have enough PG to fit a full rack of Artys and a 1MN MWD or ASB, much less run a 10MN AB (because Tac Dessies are worthless with a MWD).

If they plan to nerfbat the confessor to make it not usable with a 10mn AB they might as well just take the tac dessies out of the game entirely as they will be worthless.

I SUSPECT: Either - a.) The original team of ship designers retired, quit or were fired years ago. New designers were hired. They were averse to piggy-backing someone else's designs, and so are trying to run with their own cool concept of what a spaceship should really look like. They dipped their toe in with the Venture (and that set of dessie missile boats). Now, fully encouraged by the dangly bits (their innovation) they're coming into their own as original inventors.
Woo hoo.

OR - b.) It's the same set of designers who've gotten tired of trying to piece together the same design elements to make yet another Amarr...Minmatar...(pick one) LOOKING ship and are rebelling against having to be saddled with an idea they came up with ten years ago, and are wanting to show how they've GROWN as artists.

The stats on the Minmatar one make the extra training required for it a bit suspect. However, the sniper mode does look like it'll hit pretty hard from an enviable range IF you have all your Minmatar battle skills up to speed...like ME! The big HOWEVER here is (though) I'll probably never buy one as I don't see what use they are.
