In the recent o7 show potential ship skinning changes were mentioned.

Would it be reasonable to expect that if these changes went ahead CCP would upgrade existing blueprint skin items in hangers to fit into any new system for applying ship skins what ever that maybe?

Or not?

I hope they make it so you need to have the actual ship to use the skin.

That's most likely, how it's going to be, in my opinion.

Let's say you have a Quafe Catalyst in your hangar. With introduction of the new skin system, you'll probably get a Quafe Catalyst Licence, which will enable you, to paint every Catalyst you buy, into a Quafe version of it.

In terms of market speculation, i would seem, that such a licence would be worth more, than a skinned ship today, since you don't lose the skin, if the ship blows up.

But, we will see, how the final feature will look like and how CCP is going to handle existing ships with the new system.

That is a very good question. What happens with existing skins - especially ones with multiple runs.

Existing skin BPCs will probably be left as they are and the NES will be changed to sell licenses instead of BPCs.

I hope the licenses are not in the NES.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

This change will make the BPC for pirate faction skin on T1 ships even more worthless than now. If that is even possible.

The skins that are currently in the NES as BPCs are virtually guaranteed to remain in the NES after their conversion to licenses. Where and how additional licenses will be added is beyond speculation, although CCP would be gravely remiss to not include faction licenses in the various LP stores - especially now that the Space Object Factory has all but trivialized the process of creating and rendering differently-skinned versions of a ship.

Is this just personal speculation? or did I miss some information that is available some place?

IMO, the idea of making these things unkillable is super idiotic. EvE is a game about loss and destruction, yet they want to take a destructible item and make it live FOREVER. I am strongly against this concept.

A better way to handle these ships would be to add a rig or subsystem slot to every ship which would only allow ship skins to be placed in it. This would force people to keep them on the ship and die with them. This would also solve the naming problem which we all knew was going to happen right when they came out with the skins.

Say no to forever licences!!!!!
