Ignoring the fact that... Nevermind.

Here's my simple recreation without all the effects. I tried my best to replicate the angle, but it was quite hard.

Here's the splash again.

Now, Provence, Bantams are not the Frigate featured in the splash. They're in my render here, so compare if you wish. I gave them benefit of an exaggerated angle, but it still doesn't work.

Sorry it took so long, but I guess there's nothing 'quick' about 3D.

Thrawn, models may have changed, but they are still recognisable. Nowadays, when old model are changed, they are re-imagined, but with these models (as you can see from the station), they just gain complexity.
It is the Federation Navy Comet, the ship that you are looking for. Nothing compares to it in uniqueness, really.

Any idea where one still exists in game? I looked at a few logistics stations near Jita but couldn't find one shaped like that.

Try Motsu. I think the CN or CPF station there (the one with the L4 agent) has that model. Might be wrong though, been a while since I've actually been there.

That looks really good, thanks for putting it together.

Some models do flat out change though, like the recent change to the Falcon/Blackbird. I know there were alot of models from 2003 that just simply don't exist any more. I still can't find the station in game. All the logistics stations use the "research station" model.

You can check it by doing a show info on a system and then a show info on the stations, then clicking the image. All the logistics stations use a sort of "A" shape now.

Ok, it's really late and I've gotta go to work in 3 hours, but here's a Logistics Station like the one in the picture:

For all those that did not get this reference from the rich history of EvE, but also for all those who did and want to take a trip down memory lane, it all started here....Cool

Edit: And thank you Ferni Ka'Nviiou for the work you did on the render. Appreciated!

Well, part of the reason it doesn't work is you have the Bantams facing away from us rather than towards us. Turning them 90 degrees to the right would position them in the direction the ships are flying in the original image.

For clarification's sake, the 'mystery ships' on the original box art are flying on a course roughly (though not perfectly; they're turned a little more towards the camera) parallel to the large, protruding antennae array that juts out from near the bottom of the station. The Bantams in your rendering, on the other hand, are flying on a course to intersect that array. Or, to put that yet another way, the ships are on a course to intercept the lead Comet.

The give-away for this is the direction of the engine emission effects in the original art, which are totally illogical if the ships are turned the way you have them.

I'm not saying you should go to the trouble of re-rendering the image, but it's not accurate.

I went ahead and took the liberty of buying a Bantam simply because I do not 3D model myself, but wanted some visual evidence of my own. Here, again, is the original box art.

Here's a shot of my Bantam at a distance, flying in (basically; within a few degrees) the same direction as those on the box art.

Here's a comparison shot of major components. (Note that I used MS Paint to simply cut and up-scale the original photo. There have been no enhancements done -- it is the same, blurry image).

3D rendering is useful, but I'd argue that photographic analysis is ultimately the more truthful science given that it deals with the facts as they exist, rather than the facts as we see them.

I was actually going to look at them in-game, but I would have been wrong in my analysis anyway. I didn't realise that they would look like that facing towards the camera.
I had it in my mind that the ship would obscure the exhaust.

Thank you, for clarifying that.

I guess that makes more sense now as well, because the Bantams are flying to attack the Comets.
My thought process was like: engine trails = direction-of-travel

But thanks again.

No problem. Satelite photographic analysis is a hobby of mine, and I think a number of the skills transfer. Everything else about your rendering was bang-on.

I was always partial to the rifter version, even though I hate the ship.
