Duel Monitor Support

So after living in Null sec and now running my own corp I thought that Duel Monitor support would be a nice addition to the game.

How it would work. On one monitor you would have your ship, HuD, and menus. On the other monitor you could have just chat windows so those of us that keep many windows open at once aren't cluttering the stunning visuals that Eve has to offer.

Thoughts?

You're asking ccp to code the UI so it can go out of the main EVE window? CCP doesn't even know how the UI code actually works Straight Chance of this happening is as high as me having sex on Christmas or new-years eve.

I love dueling monitors. One gets all pissed off, issues a challenge, the other accepts, and then fowling pistols at dawn. Bloody good show, chap.

Can't you just go windowed mode and drag the window across both monitors? I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it should work.

Or start a chat window alt and have all your chat windows in a separate client.

I quess I'm doing it wrong with an extended desktop on 2 monitors and my ship centered on one and the scanners and chat boxes on the other....

did you even check to see if it was ALREADY SUPPORTED before you made a post asking for it? Roll

mist likely you won't get the extended resolution option in settings unless the monitor is plugged in and running as an extended desktop, then double wide full screen options magically appear in the monitor resolution settings in eve

All eve windows are locked within the client window. I'm running windowed, first thing I tried.

Edit, he's not asking to extend the client to both screens, but allow the chat windows to be ontop of everything else, outside the client window.

its virtually the same thing, just do it in full screen
who cares if you cover up the space view you don't look at anyhow, use one monitor for vis and dump the boxes to the secondary

What you think its probably not achievable in our lifetime... to do it.. it would actually mean having the client through both windows with some kind of transparency... so the client would still take both screens it just wouldnt be visible..
Or having EVE as an OS, which is not such bad idea.. EVE consoles ..Cool

So stretch the window onto the other monitor. Move chat windows onto that monitor. Press esc and move the camera center to your desired location. Move overview and targeted objects onto your main screen.

its not a one click solution, there are still some issues, but it kinda works.

would be better if the ship was focused on one monitor, rather than cut down its center between two monitors, other than that, yeah, the pop out windows that are separate from the main client window are really nice.

Detachable windows are actually a pretty well proven device, and any window detached from EVE wouldn't necessarily have to cooperate with the existing UI. For most windows, just a regular dialogue box could be used to deliver information, probably with the exact same framework the EVE log server uses.

If memory hacks weren't against ToS (I'm assuming, at least) and EVE didn't use any obfuscation techniques, anyone with a little experience in it could make external and interactive chat windows, containers, statuses and even the overview.

This has the visual area split in 2. I don't want the ship split in 2 I just want a solid color screen that my chat boxes can be in while in full screen mode.

I have done the stretch the whole client out option, and it works.

I will say that having the windows detachable would have some advantages, and would probably keep frame rates up in your main client (I noticed a fair lose in FR when stretched out half way across my second monitor).

I only stretched it part way across the other monitor, as I keep other things going on on the second screen that I like to keep an eye on. Movable chat/info boxes would be better I think.
