... I want to play!

Obviously everyone has seen this before, but damn. Wow. Holy ****.

This is why I am willing to be patient why I train skills, and why I am going to blow myself up hundreds of times before I get the hang of pvp.

Edit: I was sitting mining in a belt and was doing some research on hulls and fits when I came across this. Biomassed the character right there, mining after that is too much of a let down.

Well the first thing you should do is get out of that NPC corp and into a real corp that teaches you the ways of eve and opens you the door to so much more content

Do yourself a favor and don't join a massive corp/alliance right off the bat. While many of them claim to be good at teaching the basics, in many of them you'll be nothing but a number.

Join something smaller and more personal. Your efforts will mean more and you'll be glad you did.

He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.

He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.

Use NC85's guide to assist you in finding a corp that suits you.
The link to the guide is in the NCQA Resources sticky.

Also, keep in mind...

That trailer is a cut and paste of a very large amount of battles.
So, and this is not to disappoint you, it is not a true presentation of everyday PvP. It is a compilation of many fights supplied by many people. Those very good fights do happen, but you also have the boring days where fights are dull etc.

Don't just limit yourself to the corps that advertise in the forums!

Also check the in-game recruitment ads (see corp button on Neocom), talk with people in local, check pilot corp bio for contact info, Google corps, etc.

There are a lot of good corps, and bad corps. Don't feel you have to stay in a bad one, or pick the perfect corp the first time.

Example: I don't think Brave Newbies Inc. has a forum thread, at least not one that I've noticed. They do on Reddit (see the sidebar on Reddit), and they are the largest corp in EVE: "... This places the new [corp size] cap at 12600 members, which should last the Brave Newbies at least another week or two." Not all corps recruit on the EVE-O forums!

You should not be waiting for skills to train to do anything in eve. At least not more than the couple of minutes it takes to train level 1 to unlock the mod you need to use.

Experience is far more important that skill points and for a noob you'll probably not increase your chances of success nor your ability to learn that much from skill points so just do it.

Just as a side note to demonstrate my inability to understand the human experience, I've been playing this game for quite a few years and when I saw that video could not make sense of it. It's just a whole bunch of audio clips taken out of context to the point where none of it makes sense and it's so full of Eve jargon that I am surprised that it even sounds like english to someone that does not play the game.

The fact that someone who has never played Eve would see that and say to themselves "I want to try that game" blows my mind.

In a market saturated with trash, its easy enough to be drawn in by that video. Add in the complexity, depth of pvp on massive scales, the grind, the fact that its spaceships, full of mature players, and you have a winner! Excellent promo imo.

I think the video addresses many of those concerns and requirements gamers are looking for. The jargon, FC commands, huge fights, and overall production scream "this is not your average mmo"

"Raiding" has been THE major appeal since UO/EQ, and has been dumbed down over so many years that mouthbreathing 10yr olds are playing along side more mature and experienced gamers and quite frankly, ruining the experience for them. I personally would have accepted the ftp models and cartoon graphics of many games if they werent so shallow in their development ( for the kids) and full of idiots. For those lost souls, old and bitter, the appeal shown in these types of videos is massive.

EVE is probably known by 3/4 of the gaming community, yet they dont bother. I think Eve is niche in that it does not provide instant gratification and you need some skill just to comprehend what is on your display. I think thats why we love it and they dont. Videos like those above just solidify said opinions. Compare it to a few WoW raid videos and youll see. Thats my perspective anyway. I mean, dont we all envy the skill behind something like a Rooks & Kings fleet op? That level of gaming in an mmo is just damn impressive to me. its late im done sharing my thoughts that are only semi relevant to this thread in the first place.

I think you just managed to explain it pretty well. The fact is that almost all other mmo's I have played is basically easy. All you really have to do in the other mmo's is not stand in the fire and you win by default. This game is difficult, because no matter what you do, there is always a human factor involved. That makes it unpredictable and hard.

I agree with both of you guys. However I really liked WoW when it was hard back when only adults raided and I'm not at all interested in PvP. To me raiding was like a bowling league but online in that a group of us would get together at scheduled times and hang out and do something and I did not care if we "won the league" or not as long as we had fun.

The problem with talking about the human factor is that exists in all games that you are PvPing in. So in that sense Eve is not really any more challenging than any other MMO with PvP. Yes eve is deeper and there are more unknowns and it is nearly impossible to have a fair fight but that really just changes how you have to play.

I will compare it to auto racing. You have top fuel dragster racing that lasts less than 4 seconds. Pretty much if you make any mistake you loose. Each run as to be perfect. Compare that to a 500 mile oval track race or even a 24 hour race and you can make a lot of mistakes and come back from it. That is how I view eve, eve is so deep and complex even if you are the best player in the game in any given encounter you probably could have done something better. In less complicated video games you make 1 mistake and you loose.

So in Eve our PvE is much more shallow than most other video games and I don't think that can ever change much. I mean in a game like WoW where you just run back from the graveyard they can make content so difficult that very few people on the planet can successfully complete it because you can just ran back and wipe all night on stuff. In Eve if you made content so difficult that fleets would regularly wipe 20 and 30 times in a row and then come back the next night and try it all over again no one could afford the losses.

So to the OP yes the PvE in this game is mostly there to make isk to be able to PvP keep in mind I'm saying that as a non-PvPer in this game but I am in a minority. The PvP is deep and complex and if you don't mind having your ass handed to you a couple hundred times before you figure out what is going on then this game might be for you.

That video is indeed really cool.
I played WoW at BC times and back then it was a lot different, now its pretty much like any other casual MMO, altough WoD was a step in the right direction.
Eve is much more complex, I play since 2 weeks I think and feel like I BARELY scratched the surface yet.

Also on a side note, you have a really great profile pic.

You'll be saying the same thing in a year, 2 years, 5 years, etc.

And this is a game that you expect people will still be playing 10 or 20 years down the line. I named my corp "Starbreaker and Sons" before my first boy was born, because I figured that he and I might play the game together when he goes off to college.

(Lucky that one of my younger ones also turned out to be a boy, or the name might not have worked out...)
