stratios or t3 ?

My alt is a solo cloaky ganker, operating anywhere outside of highsec. I'm trying to decide which ship to train for. Stratios or T3 (Loki or Tengu). Obviously both ships have certain advantages. I just can't decide which one to focus on first. I have been especially successful with stealth bombers, but now I want to move up to hunting stronger targets. Like rat farmers and explorers in w-space.

Therefor I need:

1. a cloak. I always surprise attack, and I must able to escape quickly, as I am solo.

2. enough fire power and tank to kill a similar cruiser or T1 battlecruiser.

3. probe scanning is no issue as I run 2 clients. One does the scanning in a COps frigate, the other the killing. I also carry a mobile depot if I must switch to a scanner on the killer ship.

As for training time it would take longer for me to properly fly a Stratios than a Loki or Tengu. Would it be worth training an extra month or more for a Stratios (I don't have medium lasers, Gallantte or Amar cruiser skills)?

Cost effectiveness is also something I want to consider when deciding. Survivability is more important to me than getting kills.

I would appreciate any thoughts or advice from players experienced with both ships.

Thank you.

Stratios all the way. You just need good drone skills. For guns, you can stick any guns you like on since it doesn't have a direct damage bonus.

Doesn't the interdiction nullifier make it much easier to get around? Especially in nullsec. Or is it not a game changer in the long run?

Tengu is NOT a great all purpose gank ship. You'de really need to be selective.
Loki is NOT known for great DPS either.
Though I have seen good tank in both of them.

Ishtar is best with an alt. Pure solo cloaky ganker, I prefer a Proteus.

But why? The reasoning behind it is what counts.

Proteus has the highest dps of the cloaky T3s while maintaining good tank.
Tengu probably comes in second, and in addition allows full damage type selection (in cloaky configuration).
Loki and legion, as I understand it, are not worth having in cloaky configuration.

Stratios can do more damage than the proteus, but also suffers from a very thin tank compared to the T3s. It can have a bit more utility, though--unlike the T3s, it can have its highslots full of neuts and still have good damage, and that much neut pressure can be bad news for your victims.

Train for a proteus, and a legion, fly a stratios till you're training finishes.

I'm not saying the legion is good cloaked (it really isn't Barr neut fits) but it's along the way and can be great solo.
the proteus however is the t3 you're going to want for solo cloaked ganking.

Prot tankiest and most dps but with alot of ship rebalancing happening its not sure its gonna stay ontop in the long rung.
If you run 2 alts both with cloaky t3's i dont think it matters wich ones you bring but loki and prot or loki and tengu is prob good either way.

Stratios is very awesome in its utility but as others said its not as tanky as t3's.
But you can mix your drones and high slots around and mids to have neuts, nos , guns , different ewar and different damage types of drones. Smile

or no guns. they add little dps with no bonus so neuts to turn off active tanks are an option.

You're right, I tried fitting on EFT, I was able to get much better results with a cloaky proteus compared to a cloaky loki. I never thought there could be such a big difference. These t3's are really begging for some balance! Stratios on the other hand has great dps, but less tank.

Yes that t3 rebalance that's coming up could drastically spoil my training plan. It might be better to stick with a Stratios until we have some info. Astero is good practice for the ship too.

My alt is a scout/scanner/spy, that only provides info to my hunter alt, and has no combat training. Just maxed out scanning and support skills. So I must chose a good cloak attack ship.

Astero = Cloaky Tristan. Fantastic scout and solo hunter. I prefer a kitey fit for safety, flies like a comet with 3 full flights of drones. Safe to engage anything you know won't be fast enough to web you, can solo Destroyers and Cruisers if flown well.

Stratios = Cloaky Vexor. As mentioned, not the tankiest, but very nice drone dps for a Cov-ops boat. Geckos, Ogres, and Gardes can all dish out 500+dps. Costs as much as a T3, and can't generally compete 1v1 with them (though the mention of an all-neutralizer Stratios is viable. Probably more so than the Pilgrim, due to the massive drone bay and 5/5/5 slot layout).

Covert Proteus = Undisputed champion of Cov-ops ambushes. High blaster dps, extended scram range, and outrageous armor potential. Downside is that a plated Proteus is very slow, can be vulnerable to neuting, and gets no tracking bonus.

Covert Loki = low on-paper dps is offset by guns that track well and an extended-web bonus. Dual-web / artillery fit seems to be pretty effective, especially paired with another damage dealer (Proteus/Loki make a phenomenal team). Autocannons can allow for a dual-1600mm plate fit that can rival the Prote for defenses, or the unstoppable 100mn afterburner can be an option.

I can't speak for the remaining T3s. I've heard of the same 100mn afterburner tactic used on Tengus, but that may be out dated. Legions seem to be the least popular in my corner of Eve, but they've been seen here and there.

Good luck!

A cloaky/nulli Loki can hunt in almost any region and has the damage types to be an extremely effective ganking ship of you're strictly targeting ratters. Proteus is good but restricted on damage types. If you have the skills and by skills I mean good skills the Loki is a great choice for solo/cloaky ganking. You will also need hard wiring implants if you choose to go the Loki route.

There is a guy I play with that can take down ratting battleships solo in his 425 cloaky/nulli loki. The next choice is the Stratios. While having great DPS it is also not nullified thus leading to your demise eventually when you hit that camp and or bubble. There are also stealth bombers which can solo ishtars and battleships. I am surprised you have not considered that as an option.

No just no. If you're going to hunt with a Loki you need to go with an XL ancil shield booster and dedicate your lows to gyros and a nano.

I'm ganking anything from frigates to RR-BS gangs with a 100mn HAMgu, let me tell you: it is the one generalist you can buy for ISK. No other ship has a 500+ ehp/s one-slot tank, 750+ dps and goes 2.5km/s with an AB on.
It requires a scout/linkalt though.

If you're solo, just get a stratios (both shieldfit and singlerep, like centum c-type, work fine) and make sure you got a point and not a scram. Refit to scram when you're expecting to go up against MJD'ing ships, in that case keep point and burn in for a single scramactivation when you see the MJD animation light up.

Taking a stratios into scramrange is how people lose their ships.
