The failure of this is, it's trivial for another person to abort the safe logoff. Bumpers who know what they're doing will tag you with a shot from a newbie ship.

At that point, you can't safe logoff. From the wiki:

Quote:
You cannot be safely logging off while: You have aggression from players or NPCs
You cannot initiate a safe logoff while any of these things are happening, and if they happen once the countdown is running, it will be aborted.

So, newbies, just remember this "defense" isn't a sure thing, and us gankers have known how to stop it for a long while.

Really though, the best defense is to be prepared. If I have the choice between gunning down an anti-tanked freighter, and hitting a tanked one, I'll pick untanked any day. You don't have to be the fastest gazelle on the savannah, you just have to be faster than the slowest one.

So you tag it with a rookie ship and bring concord on grid. Well we can pull concord off the grid you say yes but by that time the aggression timer is gone and a new safe log attempt is possible. Its a good trick to **** off those gankers lol +1

Try it out and let us know how it worked out Blink

Why are you offering advice on your opinions of how to be safe in a freighter in NCQ&A?

New players cannot fly freighters, they require Advanced Spaceship Command (a capital ships skill) to level 5. Now if you had some advice on how to keep an Iteron safe in highsec, that might be of use to people in this forum.

As for how to be somewhat safe - it's pretty simple. Avoid Uedama and Niarja by taking alternate routes through lowsec (after scouting them). If you aren't willing to fly a freighter through quiet low, you sure as hell should not be flying them through much more dangerous systems.

It applies to all slow ships that can be kept from warping via bumping. As I understand, this includes many/most mining barges, and (less relevant to newbies) many battleships.

Those are just after-the-fact justifications, though, I had not actually considered posting it here might be inappropriate. I will try to pay more attention to that in the future.

Omg that would be a great read. Please make sure to include instructions on how to right click on your capacitor in order to activate your parking break so you don't drift out of the POS shield.

For those of us not 100% familiar with the tactic(being new or returning players), can we get a breakdown of how exactly 'bumping' happens?

If I read this thread correctly, this can be done even in highsec?

Bumping can be done anywhere.

Is legal.

And is nothing more then ramming your ship into the target's ship to push it out of alignment for his warp.

To enter warp, you have to be within 5 degree angle of your destination, so if people keep pushing you into other direction, you will never enter warp.

The trolls always seem to figure out a new way to bend the rules I guess.

But that's besides the point.

Doesn't the ship doing the bumping also get pushed around a little bit? Does it take more than one ship to keep someone from aligning correctly? Can't a ship being bumped cancel their warp and attempt to juke, or is that out of the question with the larger, slower ships?

hahha

Bumping is as ancient as the game.

The faster your target can realign, the more bumpers you need.
If you have something as big and slow as a freighter, it doesn't take that much to keep it from alignment.

Technically, yes you could cancel warp, and try to warp to a different thing, but a good bumper will make sure you are bumped into a direction without a destination (unless you have a private safespot in said direction)

Webbing alt or a scout to look for telltale signs of previous ganks (CONCORD on grid, flashy red locals, why are there 40 pilots in a normally quiet system?) goes a long way. If I ever have to cart a bunch of goods in a ship that just screams "SHOOT ME!", an alt is more than worth the cost.

Saying "oh, you just scout the route and you're fine". Never mind that requiring a buddy or an alt (so suddenly hauling is a two man job?), who in their right mind would ever want to waste an evening on getting a freighter 15 jumps to Jita? If I wanted to do something extremely boring and suicide inducing I would continue studying for the rest of the day.

I can confirm first hand that the guide above does not work, since if you are getting bumped you are probably targeted and that prevents you from logging safely.

So after finally subbing my account after 1 year of inactivity, I lost my beloved freighter after 2 days and now realize I can no longer conduct my trading as I have done since I started playing this game. This seems as an extremely dumb mechanic, as I now need to sub another account just for scouting&webbing.

CCP once again managed to come up with a mechanic that ruins the game for all those who don't want to pvp, and once again reaffirmed the notion that Iceland should do us all a favor and get swallowed up by the ocean.

A. You sound terribly mad about some space pixels.

B. You sound very amazed that CCP is adding PvP functions to a game that at its core is a PvP game. *Yes, any form of player interaction is player vs player*

Eddie, you were carrying a PLEX as well as an additional 1bil+ in loot and you were not ganked. Roll
Not sure how you got yourself killed by a single Logi ship but there is something you are not telling us...

But yes, if you want to move a bil isk ship that is carrying a bil+ in cargo and you have no way of defending yourself, then you should have some sort of escort.

Well back in my day it would take a fleet of battleships to take down a freighter, so I could easily transport 1-1,5bil worth of stuff without getting ganked. This time I suddenly found myself being bumped out of range of the gate, unable to align and very surprisingly for me - unable to log out. I don't know who came up with that brilliant idea, but that person should be gently but firmly dumped into a volcano.

A. It's not pixels, it's thousands of hours of my life I have invested into this game. If you are too cool to give a **** about something you put time and effort in, then perhaps you are one of those useless individuals whose time is not worth anything.

B. I am amazed because this PvP functionality (it can't even be called that, it's just abuse of faulty mechanics) is being added to high sec. If you want to PvP - go to null sec. But no, all you leet bittervet oldfags camping gates **** your pants at the prospect of nullsec pvp, your notion of pvp is ganking carebears without CONCORD intervention.

C. Don't write posts in the form of lists, they make you look like a faget.

A) It's pixels, get over it.
iv spent two years playing and trust me, it's just pixels.

B)high sec is relatively safe, not safe .
if I want to push your **** in , I can and I'll damn well do it in whatever part of neweden I see fit because the game explicitly allows for it.
you have to prevent me from doing so.

One of the corner stones this game is built upon is the idea that someone can always ruin your day the moment you get complacent. Regardless of where you are.

If you want safety I can recommend this game for you, seems more your speed

You broke the first rule of EVE

1. Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

And lol at being mad at the entirety of Iceland over the loss of an internet spaceship.
