Capsuleer/Ship interfacing

Some lore questions on how capsuleers interface with their ships:

The EVElopedia mentions that a capsuleer issues ship commands "mentally," so obviously there is some sort of direct neural connection between the person floating in statis in her pod, and with the ship. To what extent does this connection exist? Does the capsuleer "see" and "hear" through ships sensors and cameras? Does a capsuleer "feel" when the ship takes damage as if it were her own body? To what extent does the capsuleer actually "become" the ship she is flying, and does this lead to any sort of mental confusion having to switch between being a bipedal creature that walks and "being" a vessel that traverses the stars? Or, conversely, does the capsuleer remain fully separate from the ship, only "interfacing" to the extent that any other crewmember sitting at some duty station might (just more efficiently because of the neural connectivity?)

Your ship becomes your body. The camera drones are your eyes. Regarding hearing, the ship creates the illusion of sound for the purpose of spatial awareness for the pilot (because obviously, there's no sound in space naturally). You do feel when the ship takes damage, among other things, this is stated very clearly in the various booster descriptions. (especially blue pill and exile)

There is a natural mental confusion, this is a major part of what capsuleer training is for. That mental confusion between the real body and the ship is what causes mindlock (wetgraving), so capsuleers spend a very long in the program learning how to let go of the sense of their own real body. This is achieved through many hours of sensory deprivation tanks, among other things.

While the capsuleer is in the pod and hooked up to the ship, they feel like they are the ship and just the ship. If they start feeling both their real body and the ship, their proprioception gets scrambled and they mindlock.

Quote:
"That's a momentary proprioception failure. Your mind just loses track of where your body is. Now, what happens when you get hooked into the capsule is that the mind link interface replaces your proprioception. The ship's hull replaces your own body outline. Its shape becomes your shape. And if your mind isn't a hundred percent used to this intrusion, it gets confused. Our innate body compass is so strong that it needs to be sublimated entirely before it can be replaced. That's what sensory deprivation's about. If your prio gets scrambled, your mind enters into this sort of closed loop, oscillating between body images. People can pull out of it with certain focus techniques, but they need to be trained really hard for a really long time. Usually people just go unconscious and that's it. When they wake up, complete irreversible catatonia."

Thanks! Between what you wrote and a story I found on the EVElopedia called "The Jovian Wetgrave" I think I'm getting a pretty good grasp of it. Thanks again!
