When I was young capsuleer alloyed tritanium bar salvage item cost 400 000 ISK. I often carried salvagers in all of my ships in case I see destroyed capsuleer ships. I got few bars every now and then and it produced me lots of ISK. Also T2 rig components were in ludicrous price and finding one destroyed T2 ship wreck was like finding treasure chest filled with gold.

These old days are now gone. There are no treasure chests in EVE salvaging anymore. Deploydables made it easier to get salvage components and relic/data sites produce T1 and T2 rig components what is very weird.

I got idea how to make salvaging again more motivating and it brings back treasure chests.

1. Remove rig components completely from other sources than salvaging.

2. Capsuleer ship wreck despawn time should be increased to two days and wrecks could show timer when they despawn. This would increase chance that all capsuleer ship wrecks are either salvaged or destroyed.

3. Now there is some kind of rule what faction ships produce what rig components. I propose that this rule is removed.

4. T1 rig components should be divided to two kind of rig components. Other half drops from NPC ship wrecks and other half drop only from capsuleer ships wrecks. Capsuleer ship wrecks produce different rig components than NPC ship wrecks.

5. Faction ship wrecks could drop either T2 rig components or rig components for new faction rigs(!)

6. Capsuleer ships wrecks should be scannable with expanded probe launcher.

7. Old combat and mission sites could turn to scannable salvage sites. Here is my old suggestion about this issue.

8. Insurance payments should be removed or minimal for T2 and T3 and faction ships. These ships are meant for professionals and insurance is meant for newbies. This would prevent destroying these ships for salvage components and even earning ISK with it. This would allow T2 and faction ships drop more salvage components. Example: Marauder costs about 1 billion ISK and T2 cruiser costs about 200 million. Marauder ship wreck should produce five times amount of rig components compared to T2 cruiser wreck.

Profitable salvaging was important part of EVE experience for me.

Here are more ideas about faction rigs:

1. Faction rigs would be manufactured from T2 rigs and require salvage components from capsuleer faction ship wrecks.

2. Faction rigs would be meta 6, meta 7 and so on. Relic sites would drop blueprint copies for these rigs. Null sec relic sites would have higher meta level blueprint copies.

3. Higher meta level items would require more faction rig components than lower meta level items.

4. Faction ship wrecks salvage components would have green background color.

Comments are welcome too for faction rigs idea.

You cannot bypass the basic laws of economics. Salvaging was very profitable early on because demand for salvaged parts was huge and the supply was limited. Now that they've been around for a while, the supply has caught up to the demand, which drove down prices. Increasing the supply (which is what many of your suggestions do) will actually decrease profit, not increase it.

If you want to make salvaging profitable again, you have to make it harder, not easier.

And then what value would there be in relic sites?

Salvage has always been a fairly newbro way to get isk quickly. Salvaging T2 ships is a lot easier now with interceptors and Ishtars all over the place. Sometimes you get lucky and find a CS or BS T2 wreck.

Salvaging anoms with a Noctis is a faster way to make isk, after using just a salvage dessie for the few weeks needed to train up.

There is progression in the salvaging miniprofession. This is a good thing. Is does not require a lot of SP. But more SP does generate a better ROI. It seems good to me.

Insurance for T2 is already shite. How much more shite must it be? T3s are another story.

I don't see the need for OP's suggested changes. Not supported.

If you want to make salvaging more profitable then you need to nerf relic sites. With the new game mechanism for exploration there are tons of new players out there searching for easy profit and I must say: based on risk/income it is worth doing it. Low SP requirements for starting and a cheap ship in combination with the outlook for the "big jackpot" made this too attractive.


Instead of nerfing the sites just re add some nic npcs to the nullsec and wh relic sites again. Just like in the good old days: first you have to kille 1-2 waves of BS, frigs and other stuff and then you are free to have a look at the cans.
