A Dutch auction works backwards from a normal auction. Instead of starting lower than you think your toon is worth and letting the price raise till only 1 bidder is left. You start higher than you think it is worth and drop the price till first bidder wins.

I would drop the price every 24 hours per ccp bump rules.

I also wonder if the loss of all the bumps you get from a normal auctions repeated bidding might offset the advantage of a dutch auction. Due to the 24 hour bump rule it would only be at the top of the list same time every day.

I have multiple alt accounts I will be selling over the next few weeks and thought this might make it easier. And possibly more profitable... maybeUgh. Not even sure it would be legal either tho

No it wouldn't be at the top of the list at the same time every day.

I mean it would ... but the 24h rule only states that you can only post once per calendar day.

That means you can post at 23:59 and at 00:00 without an issue.

All you need to do is not post every 24h ... but, for example, every 36h ... or whatever.

That way you slowly move your auction through all timezones.

I'm sure that you can pull off such an auction if you advertise it in the OP of the thread.
I am not familiar with the rules per se, but in worst case you can always petition.

Or you ask Mr. Epeen on the forums here.

Sure it would be legal. It's pretty much just a reverse buyer-offer scenario. Instead of the buyers making offers, you are.
Just state what you're going to do in the Original Post.

17. Lottery style sales are not permitted. Auctions and buyouts are the appropriate method for selling a character.

You're just setting new buyouts. I see nothing wrong with this.

There's nothing wrong with trying it.
If you still feel unsure, file a support ticket.

I've seen them done a few times.

I seem to remember some kind of a ruckus over it. No one really gets how they work (You too, ISD) and they ended up getting the lock.

But it's worth a shot. Just clearly spell out the rules in the OP like you were explaining Quantum Mechanics to a 3 year old. The worst that can happen is a lock and you have to make a new thread.

Seems straightforward enough to me, but then again I'm a big Battletech fan and a Clanner at that, so I know the concept of the batchall and undercutting your opponent on the bid but not shooting yourself in the foot while doing it. Blink

Seen it done before, but as you said there are drawbacks.

For example you won't have any bidders posting which are like free (forum rule-abiding) bumps. As a consequence of that consequence you may come out of the sale with less than you could have had due to lower visibility and exposure. (Someone willing to pay high that doesn't see your sale until you have slashed the price several times.)

Due to the 24 hour posting limit I believe the traditional auctioning method is superior.

if you have any friends in EVE at all you just get people to post in the thread for you. Not with simple bids, that smells funny, but inquiries about interest and talking up the uses of the character. coyly.

You could also just bump your thread maybe once between each price reduction.
It'll take much longer that way, but that abates that problem somewhat.

In the past, Dutch auctions have been used for selling characters. No problem there.

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.

Only the Dutch would think of something like this - this and Dutch treat. Wizards.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

As long as you comply to the forum rules in general and the Character Bazaar rules specifically, there is no objection to it. You are free to set a new (lower) buy out price every 24 hours if you would like.

In other words: Yes, it is allowed.

I'll bid 300 tullips, 1 windmill and a pair of wooden shoes.

And forum rules prevent me from posting that in Dutch.
