Data Site bugged?

Hi fellow capsuleers,

today i found a serpentis virus test site (classified as data site) via probe scanning. after warping there i found 2 serpentis info shards. And here is where my problem starts:

After getting in range locking onto one of the shards i tried to use my data analyzer I. After doing this i got the following message: "No further tools are needed to access the serpentis info shard"

So i just tried to click on "open cargo" from the context menu. This time i got the following message: "You cannot access the serpentis info shard without specialzed equipment"

I tired the same thing with the second info shard with the same results. After this i tried to restart the game and return to this position only to find out that everything was despawned. Did i do anything wrong or was that a bug? Thx in advance for any helpful answers.

Regards
Mando

Someone else scanned it down and did it before you. Sites take a min to despawn. It hadn't despawned before you got there but it was indeed finished. Sorry. High sec will be busier as far as explorers.

Are you sure about that? I've spent at least 15 - 20 minutes there trying to access the damn thing but without success. it was just gone after i restarted the game

Sites generally will not despawn while a player is on grid. Once the guy who finished the site left, a timer started. You arrived before that countdown finished so the despawn was paused. When you restarted, timer continued and finished. Site despawn.

Allright thx. Is there anything that makes me see that a stie has been already looted? like a hollow symbol or something like that?

Hmm. I cannot check in game at the moment. I think there is a way to check though. I know whenever I hack a can it gets tagged with my sec rating. I assume if I hit show info on it, it would show my portrait in there just like wrecks do to show who shot the wreck and 'owns' it. Not sure of a better way to explain it.

Yes a white filled in diamond shape or cargo can shape means there is still loot available within the can. An empty shape means it has been looted already.

Some people like to cherry pick the loot, preventing the site from despawning. You can indeed confirm which containers are empty. Even if you hit a site like that, you can still run the ontouched cans (although the best loot is probably gone). Three reasons:

1. Previous hacker simply cherrypicked (used cargo-scanners) and didn't waste his time hacking empty or trashy cans.

2. He did it to spite you... hisec = lots of competition. You wasting your time = me gaining momentum.

3. You are in lowsec... and curiosity is about to kill the cat, as the previous hacker is also using the site as gankbait.
