[PI] Raw output quality index vs. total output

I have recently encountered a strange phenomenon when trying to place extraction heads on an ice colony.
I noticed that a spot with lower output quality rendered higher total output. I am aware that what scans show is not 100 % accurate, but I would like to know why this is happening.

In this first image you can see the second extractor head has a ROQI (raw output quality index) of 129,69 and the total output of this program is 23.384 units.
In this second image I moved the extractor head towards the center of the "hotspot" and my ROQI increased to 144,06, but my total output decreased to 16.222 units.

How can this be explained?

The hotspots' accuracy is based on your Planetology and Advanced Planetology skills, so are the estimated outputs. The higher you have those skills trained, the more accurate the heatmap and estimated outputs are.

Basically, everything's an estimate until you hit Submit.

Also the hot spots on planets will be mined by others which does have an impact on your output. This is why I never put heads down on the middle of the hotspot anymore and instead go for a ring around it.

So the raw output quality index depends on the scan and is not accurate, while the total output is exactly what I will get?

Ahh, I noticed this! I will do so too in the future!

Before you hit submit, everything is an estimate. After, it's exactly what you are currently getting that cycle.

Ahh, thank you all for this explanation!
