Exploration ship question.

Ok I am still within my first 30 days but since I left Brave Newbies I have taken up high security exploration and I have been lucky enough to earn enough isk to actually be able to buy a plex if I wanted to.

That being said high sec is wearing thin for me. I can go 10 to 15 jumps sometimes and not find a single combat signature to run ( I have discovered I hate the hacking minigame... screw it I refuse to do them especially for the cheap crap that comes from them). So I want to move into low security space exclusively for combat sites.

I have my eye on the stratios since I can now afford to lose one and replace it. I cannot get one and expect to go right into low security space as of this moment because my drone skills stink, however the covert ops cloak is a really tempting draw. I know its not a guarantee for not being blown up, but it does help out in that regard, plus the option to cloak somewhere and be safe is too nice to pass up.

How would you fit this ship?

I am not planning on buying this ship today and flying it without the skills to back it up, I know better I just want a general idea what you would put on the ship and have in the hold for mobile depoting if you did not plan on running data or relic sites. I would like to stick it in pyfa and eve mon and set up a skill plan for it.

Thank you in advance for any advice on this topic.

Before you even think about the stratios ,
Tips on low sec:

Thank you for that advice, I appreciate it... I was thinking about some kind of neut fit possibly in the cargo hold to swap out and hunt the hunters eventually, but that will be a long time away lol when I can afford to lose like 10 in a row and not feel a sting. To start off I will be warping away no matter what as soon as I see combat probes and hitting cov ops cloak on the way to safe.

For now I all ready know how to make a safe spot from the short while I was in Brave, I also use Dscan to look for probes all ready. They tell me when to run sites faster to beat my competition in high sec currently.

I have the presets still from the brave overview settings, but dont like the tabs on it. I am going to have to find a better one, or make my own.

hacking in null and wormholes is far from cheap crap, can pull over 100m from one site quite often.

Make your own, I use a tweaked one of the one listed in the blog linked.

Fyi, I would feel the loss of a stratios, they're not cheap, I have one and it's a great ship but there are good analogs for it you should practice in as their asplosion wouldn't financially cripple you.
Think about taking a few vexors or ishkur into low and survive as long as you can, go see the evegate in one and try get home alive.
being hunted can actually be fairly engaging an fun if you can deal with the rush.

Make your own. No one else's will ever be quite right for what you are doing, and making your own will teach you how to tweak it as necessary. I wrote a little guide about it, which is horribly outdated but might give you some ideas. Basically the GUI has been updated to make it easy to filter states.

Biggest advice - keep it concise. You want the pertinent information on each tab and no other clutter. Keep in mind that some of the things are there mostly for dscan purposes. My tabs look something like...

-PVP - ships, stargates, stations, forcefields, probes, bubbles, beacons (friendly ships are filtered out)
-Friendlies - friendly ships only
-Celestial - Planets and sun for quick warpouts
-Moons - moons, sun, forcefields (swapped with celestial when looking for a POS on dscan)
-PVE - ships, npcs, mission items, probes
-Loot - wrecks, cargo containers, drones, deployables

Of course you will need to customize to match your own needs, but this might get you started.

I was actually thinking about getting into exporation. But i'm confused on how i should fit my ship. This toon has been focused on mining but it got boring very fast.

I think that it's good that you asked this question and that you've gotten some good advise here already. However I'd just like to caution you against thinking that somehow someone might give you a word or two of advice or that you are going to be given some magic fit that works perfect.

Operating in low sec is more about your personal knowledge than the ship that you fly or how it is fit. I suggest that you do your research and then go out and try it for now in cheaper ships. Learn from each loss so that when you can fly the stratios that you know what it is that you want to do with it, how to fit it, why it's fit that way and how much better it is than what you had before.

Experience is the only way that you can really know something and there is just no way around going out and taking your lumps to learn your lessons. Yes reading up can make those lumps more fruitful and maybe help you to take less of them but you are still going to need to spend some time in the school of hard knocks.

If you are engaged in combat in a site that you are running or have a lot of space junk around you and someone warps into your site you will not be able to cloak up. A cov ops cloak is an awesome tool and can be very helpful but it's not a magic win button. Loose 10 standard cruisers before you even think about taking the Stratios into low.

depends on the ship

high sec I have had decent luck with arbitrator.

in the highs I have a drone link, a core probe launcher and rest light missile launchers.
mid slots 10 mn ab 2 large shield extenders and an rat specific hardener or an adaptive
low slots DDA's a damage control and a power diagnostic

rig slots I have an EM shield rig and 2 field extenders

carry a mobile depot... they are fairly cheap and allow you to re equip without docking up

in your cargo have extra drones, relic or data analyzers, I even have a small armor repairer in case something breaks my shield before I can warp out to regen shield.

you could full out passive tank this thing in high security I suppose... mids and high stay same, rigs change the extenders to purgers and the lows become beta shield power relays (orbit your mobile depot and switch in and out the drone damage adds as necessary to maintain your tank while speeding up killing)

Absolutely true. I will try that while getting drone skills up. My initial thoughts were to only run sites in places with 0 people in system with me, the immediately warp to a safe and cloak up if some one enters system. While effective at avoiding ganks I wouldn't really learn anything that way.
