I finished the tutorial...now where do I go?

So I finished the basic eve tutorial, did the exploration and am working through the combat mission lines. My question is, where do I warp to for the not newbie mission hisec sectors? I want to start flying around and interacting with real players, not just rats.

I would recommened getting yourself blown up to "break the ice".

but mostly this is sandbox.. there is no progression you can do whatever you want.

Do what ever you find fun to do. Be it mining, missioning, exploration, blowing up other people in a fair way, blowing up people in an unfair way...what ever.

But, just talk in local...get to know people

Join community channels, get to know more people...

EVE is a fun game...but not if you exclude yourself from the most fun part of the game...the other players.

Get to know your local trade hubs. Jita, Amarr, Dodixie, Rens, Hek.

Definitely get blown up, and not by NPC's

Find low-sec, fit up a venture with mining lasers, jump into low-sec and mine Jaspet until you are blown up (warp out if NPC rats show up).

Then, after you've heard yourself and your mother called every unholy name you never thought you'd hear on the internet, and when you've been told to "go back to high-sec", "quit", "give me your stuff", etc., go back to your home base and get used to the fact that you now know what Eve is all about.

Consider the various types of content Eve offers, and what appeals to you. All content is made better with friends. While most PvE is obsessively accomplished solo for maximum reward, this is a major mistake players make, and a chief reason they become bored or pigeon hole themselves early on.

In game chat channels exist for virtually everything. Even as an experienced player I often kept an eye on newb-oriented channels such as 'missions' and offered help to people more interested in socializing than farming isk.
Check out corp recruitment threads in that sub-forum, as again, pretty much anything you can do in Eve, will have others looking to find friends to share the content with.

I am heavily biased toward PvP in all it's forms. IMO, that is where Eve really shines as an MMO, and the fleet concept that Eve revolves around comes into it's own best in PvP. Many new organizations will take new players right out of the tutorials as it's often easier to get them involved than players already established in some other content.
Large null sec alliances such as Goonswarm, Brave, etc always need new recruits, and will often have the resources to assist players. Things like free skill books, ship replacement, or even just handing out free ships to join fleets with are common among these groups. That allows one to immediately jump into PvP without having to worry about having to grind PvE just to pay for replacing lost ships.

You are never stuck with a decision in Eve. Try out content to see what fits your play style and time commitment. If something isn't your bag, simply try something else until you find your niche. Finding your niche should be as enjoyable as doing it.

If you did ALL the tutorials, what did you enjoy doing?

If you've haven't done the Sisters of EVE (SoE) Blood-Stained Stars arc, that's something worthwhile to do too.

I highly recommend joining a corp. All content in EVE is player generated, so it is a lot easier to find and generate content with the help of others. It is also a lot more fun to share experiences, wins, losses, and laughs, etc. There are several rookie-friendly corporations, some with no entry requirements (examples: Brave Newbies Inc., and Red Federation vs. Blue Republic (RvB or Red vs. Blue).

This is actually the best advice ever.

Amidst the swarms of paranoid or legitimately anti-social who will ignore you, you will find a few others not afraid to chatter. You'll make new contacts or friends, get dragged into channels, asked to join corps, taken into fleets, etc. Worked for me.

I can vouch for this advice, did it alot as newbie, wanting to know people. I still often do, for the same reasons, knowing folks. It's a nice way to know the finer aspects of Eve.

Sometimes you stumble on great people, other days you run in fun times. They won't always respond in local, but when people do, it's often fun banter that follows.

it depends on what you say in local, Nerath.

I took the commonly suggested path of fitting up a bunch of frigates and heading to a noted pirate den (amamake) and asked for honorable fights at the sun with pirates. I was obliged and died several times without a single victory- but I parked my pod in a safe and asked questions of my killer, learning much in the process.

When I wanted to join a pirate outfit myself, I flew to their home system, and offered fights at the sun as my application to join. I spent the next year shooting up the space lanes with them. (I also returned the favor to anyone that asked for honorable fights and even contracted a couple people ships as a way to help them know what skills they should be training-- "when you can fly this, come back and fight me again")

When looking at corps to join, most have specific recruiting channels you can use. If not, a private convo with a recruiter or CEO will go farther than just submitting apps. Do beware of corps that shotgun advertise that they do pretty much everything in Eve-- as most of the time they end up doing none of it with any regularity. A corp that is specific about what they do is more likely to actually do it.

If you decide to go the PvE route for a while to get used to the game keep in mind it is a game. By that I mean play around with stuff. Playing is what real learning is.

Eve Uni Wikki is a good place to read up on ships and various aspects of the game but to really learn a ship or anything experiment with it. So try out a fit that focuses more on dps then try a tanking fit then maybe a kitting fit etc. You will also probably want to play around with turrets versus missiles or drones etc. You'll want to read up on tracking and gunnery at some point. Also as a noob I used to just go through the market and read up on various ships and modules so that I knew what was out there. If in doubt ask questions and try it out.

Google and youtube are your friends in this game. You can google the name of a ship or any activity that you could want to do in game and find lots of info some of it good and some of it bad or outdated.

This game is definitely about the players. It's a true MMO in that it is about other players. You can do pretty much anything you want in this game but you have to make it happen. There is no queueable anything in this game. Also doing what ever you want requires you knowing what you want which brings us back to just play around with various stuff, find a corp and make some friends.
