Hi there, as with any game there is a natural progression for all players:Arrow

1. Start: Learn and skill up. get to know the pecking order, realize you don't stand a chance against more seasoned players
2. Novice: Learn some more, start balancing the wallet, start getting some better gear.....still getting killed easily...
3. Apprentice: Start to understand the bigger picture, know where not to go.....sometimes takes a risk....pays dearly.....
4. Mid stream: Can hold your own with same level players......smile knowingly at the nub questions......understand some of the Eve speak better......start to take on nil sec.
5. Old er gamer: Making name and kicking ass.........rolling in ISK.......local advice channel for newer players
6. Veteran: Deep understanding of the game and your own abilities, wise beyond the game.........teacher, mentor, guru....

And the game is structured like that too. The newer player does not have access to the higher skills or higher ISK making avenues. As is every society and corporation in real life, you have those with seniority and those without. And those that do not have it yet, will only understand that later in the game......this is not a game, it is a community, of which the virtual reality is very real.

Proving that it's more natural than the lesser games, which are easy to learn and there is no real challenge to master.

EVE is more natural, because there is no laid out path forward ...
... and no one becomes the hero who saved the gameworld at the end.

All roads lead to Amber...
oh, wait. That's something entirely different.
The tricky thing with EVE is that the end-game content isn't something defined by the creators so much as by the player involved. Discard all Gygaxian notions of linear progression and focus on what you want to do, only through this can you truly enjoy EVE... and even master bits of it.
There is no 'natural progression' except what you define as such for yourself.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

It depends how you define natural I suppose. In terms of 'normal manner' you can see that EVE is the only one that diverges from the other games.

There is no doubt that EVE has a lot to learn, but it also artificially imposes this progression due to training times.

It seems like if skill and experience trump all the game wouldn't need to also handicap new players to the extent it does.

A game of chess where a new player doesn't get access to the Bishop for 6 months, the Rook for 12 months, and the Queen for 2 years isn't being won by veterans because they're experienced and skilled.

What's natural about capping a player's access to progression based on how long they've been subscribed to the game?

The 'EVE Superiority Complex' on this site is exhausting and seems to prevent any real dialogue about the game. A game with a training queue that is 4 months long before your in game character can begin to adequately perform even one of the game's simpler roles is not being wholly driven by player adapting to the learning curve of the game.

When you are born you spend your time learning, improving and growing.
That sounds pretty natural to me.
Sorry if you do not improve and have no desire to.

Just because you are doing it wrong,
ignoring how kany obviously are doing it right,
doesn't mean the game is flawed.

What you expect, the opposite, makes no sense at all.

Dare I question who here has the complex when you think you need months to do anything
and rather have effective access to everything early on.

A computer game isn't childhood development. It's entertainment for grown people.

If you decide you're going to ski, you can grab the same skis and ski the same mountain as any expert; how well you do is up to you and your ability to learn.

If for the first year some outside force prevented you from being able to buy fully functional skis, how is that natural?

So changing the point now?

This game allows for natural evolution of a character. The way it works is natural, too.
It's based on the laws of nature, where the weak get killed by the strong and the smart survive the stupid.
People join the game and learn, grow and gather experience.

It is natural not to be able to use everything and anything and if it takes you over a year
to reach a certain ship, then there is sense behind it. Not every moron should be able to fly everything.

It takes time to learn the game. People are noobs for the first half year at least,
some others like you take a bit longer, obviously.

This is how this game works. It needs no change, because there is no flaw.
People join and progress a character.

You have no idea what's natural or not, you only care about your selfish interest.

Facts matter. Your opinion is irrelevant.
Your voice is irrelevant.
You are irrelevant.

If you want something to be changed, gather people to support you or gtfo.

Did not read the banter, what I skimmed though... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH 'natural progresstion' AHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAH hahahahahah ahaha ahah heh...

Eve is like real life. there is NO natural progrestion, none, zip, nodda.

Here is an example:

I am an 11 year vet (almost but close a blood nuff)

For the first 7 years of my eve carrier, I was the leader of a 600 man alliance, lived in null, ran 30 pos solo. and my wallet never, and I mean NEVER passed 100m isk. ever. If I wanted something, I pinched my pennies and bought it. If I could nto be assed to save, I did not need it. It was not till I decided I wanted a nyx that I got serious, sold all my assets, borrowed isk form an eve buddy, got my nyx... and lost it a month later. since then, that was 2010, my wallet hangs around 8b.

I did all the high level thins but my focus wa other peoples fun, and the corp and alliance. I did WAY too much for to long.

I know a month old noob who has more isk then I have EVER had. Because he trades.

I have a buddy, ceo of my sister corp, who has more isk then I can imagine, something like 500b because he works the trades. My mind just can't grasp how to do that, so I don't. My play style won't make me rich, but that's not my goal or progression. That's eve. There is no "do this, then this, then this, you are now a billionair' There is no 'oh if you are hever 5 years you are a vet, 9 a bitter vet' None of that. I'm rather good at what I specialized in, I have cotacts all over eve, I'm a decent diplo, decent leader, I have my faults, and yes I could be called a 'vet' but honestly? I learn more and more about this game everyday. You have questions about pos', pi, mining, corp and alliance management I'm your man. You have questions about industry, I kinda have answers. Questions about pve I kinda have answers, qustions about pvp... AHAHAHAHAHA go ask someone else.

You need to take this thought of progresstion and flush it. There is none. I am considered a vet, I'm not way bitter. I love thi game, love it. I'd marry it if that was possible (and my wife would not have my balls on a platter) but I'm not rich isk wise, I don't know everything about eve. I know what I know, and that's it. I consider myself rich, because I helped a lot of new players love this game, gave then starting points and some moved off to become ceo's and fcs and big people in there own right. I have fun helping others. I have fun running a corp. My path is not one I'd recommend, but its mine.

Eve's progress is like real life.. its personal. If you start looking arounf trying to mimic others, you will not find eve enjoyable. So stop this line of thinking. EVE is personal, your play style, your fun, how you have fun, is all on you. Progress is defined by you and you alone. Be it to be the richest man in eve, or the guy that if you die irl, eve will weep for you. Or someone who people can say 'yea I know DaReaper, he was my ceo, he sucked as a ceo but he got me started." or "Yea I know DaReaper, love the guy, helped me wan to play eve." That is my progress. Find yours.

Note: I'm far too lazy to be assed to spell check. Be nice kids and learn to read Reaperese. I plan to keep posting.. a lot.

Except this is incorrect. Skill points don't equal progresstion.

you seriously have to take everything you think you know about gaming and throw it away when you play eve. I'll explain why.

I currently have 135m sp's (that's low for 11 years [kids use implants]) I can easily fly a carrier, I can use t2 weapons and equipment... yet I have died, more times then I can imagine to a noob. Even in my shiney dec'd out ship, I die. Why? Because skill points do not matter. Money doesn't matter. You have to think about eve like real life. Bill gates for exsample is a vet when it comes to computers and business. but honestly? some dude working his garage could, with some skill, topple him. Eve is the same.

EVE is not like 'generic wow clone x' where a 90lvl guy an not be beaten at all, ever, by a lvl 20. that's not how eve works. not even close. If you believe that's how eve works... then you are in for a long and bumpy and boring ride.

Eve progression:

1. buy subscription
2. go mining
3. get blown up mining
4. buy Titan pilot from bazar
5. Join Goons with Titan pilot and win Eve.

All this in the first hour.
