Allowing players to customize the ships would ruin the look of this beautiful game.

When I have to fly in a fleet of Donald Duck themed Eagles I am quitting.

Taken a look at the Falcon recently, glad no one will be able to find it soon.

Well they are looking at adding this feature anyway. They also just added mostly-pointless WASD ship control. Incarna was a disaster, but you can technically now leave your ship.

Point is, eventually EVE will have an answer for even the most trivial and irrelevant of complaints, including this one.

Well, they wanted to add custom decals (thus, player logos) once they V3'ed all the ships. But alas!, now they will need to PBR all the ships. Which regretfully will delay the time of putting custom decals on them because you can't put a decal on a ship whose maps will change anytime in the future so it stops looking like a (shiny) plastic toy; the decal should be redone again for the final maps and that would be wasteful.

Of course, I don't suggest wearing a cranial titanium plate and insinuate that maybe the Art Team is not 100% happy about player logos messing with the color scheme of ships... it's not as if ideas that crossed the Art Team were sabotaged in the past *cough, cough Captain Quarters cough, cough*.

I figured that was implied with my previous comment.

This is nothing else but an advertisement for the game he talks about.

Took me a while, but it's actually obvious. He praises the indy company of the game
as being more capable than CCP, because they got that stupid part.

He seems to confuse depth with silly ship skinning ...
... but actually he simply tries to make a clever advertising post.

He says "biggest, for now" hinting at the game again. Then he adds that EVE
is the "self proclaimed biggest" etc etc.

TL;DR:
This guy is just an ass advertising for his game,
which is some spacegame that still needs money.

Requesting lock.

Nah. He's advertising for his game, that's why we think it doesn't fit.

I don't want to be rude but you compare a MMO with an indie title like SG2. I'm sorry but it is not the same kind of coding.
Each mod on your ship must be transfered to the universe, which is a one shard one in Eve. Do you think it is easier than for a singleplayer game?

If there aren't mods for mmo it's for a reason. And there are many started, or pre-alpha, projects of new "revolutionary" MMO that will never see the light of even an alpha, like I seen them when I was a member of gamedev forums, it's because it is far more difficult to code than an indie game. Yup you don't have much AI to do, but the massive networking management isn't easier to code. I don't even talk about community management... because of course with ship mods, you should need of watchdogs and a regulation system to avoid to break EULA and other laws.

Comparing apples with oranges.

Hey OP. Please post a link to the game you are advertising so that I can register on their forums and talk about the lack of attack and defense modules and the impotence of battles that are limited in size and scope due to players not being on one shard and of course the complete lack of a player driven market.

I really like the fancy threads the useless boring spaceships can wear though.

True, true.

But, truth be told, I still want to be able to cover my raven in bright neon green glow in the dark plush fur. Pink is also not of the table... Or bright neon green blow in the dark fur with grizzly red tiger stripes and malicous looking tiny little eyes at each side of it's "beak". Big smile

I do, sometimes. Stuff's shiney, yo. But I have no desire to "customize" the view.

Same with Titanfail, where you can unlock insignia to put on your Titan, except nobody is even going to notice them.

I play a lot of space games and this is most likely the biggest, for now. But to see a ship being bought with no chance for colorization, no trim options, no icons,(that I've seen) seems odd. Its not that its hard even Indy companies have decals and color choices, so why not here...the proclaimed biggest and most detailed space sim? Starpoint Gemini 2 has a great customization system and their whole game was Indy based with a tiny fraction of what you get here.Shocked

Nobody gives a **** about the colour of my ship when they are seeing it close up. They tend to concentrate on the swivelling of the auto cannons in their general direction.

I was so hoping to have a Brownie Scout space ship! I get to EVE and all they have is this olive drab. Except for those pesky little Amarrians. They have GOLD and CRIMSON and STUFF!!!

Then again, there's some kids you never want to trust with the model and the decals...let alone a bottle of paint.
