So what's wrong with the Muninn? There must be something because I never see this HAC mentioned or see one flying around Eve anywhere. I can understand a ship being less mentioned because it is useless in PvP, but I don't see any PvE players in null or hisec flying them either.

But I am a skill invested Minmatar pilot and looking at my options for training into T2/T3 cruisers. I may be unusual in that I love using arty, and out of the Minmatar cruisers (on paper) the Muninn looks the most well suited for it. I have become very adept at manually flying a Hurricane FI in L4 missions, null anomalies/ratting, and managing range, tracking, ammo, etc with the arty cane, where I can simultaneously speed tank battleships and kite cruisers, and apply damage at almost any range.

I've looked at the popular Cynabal (that I have reasonable skills to fly) and have trouble coming up with a fit that seems to work for harder PvE content. Seems to have serious cap issues with any kind of active shield tank, and not suited to fitting an active armor tank without seriously crippling dps. AC seems to be the only way to go, but the tank seems very thin to close within AC range of a large fleet of NPCs while relying only on speed to tank all the dps.

I understand that the Vagabond and the Cynabal are nearly clones, so I would have the same issues. I hope to fly these in PvP, but I am looking for a ratting ship at the moment. I will fly expense ships in PvP when I actually get decent at PvPing in T1's.

The Muninn seems to be very suited to being fit and used similarly to the arty cane that I am used to, similar dps and tank, but with more range and speed. Is this a fair assessment?

Does anyone fly a Muninn? Since I can't fly it yet, I am limited to paper data, which can often be worse than useless.

I would love to fly a Sleipnir, but the training for one is absolutely absurdly long for skills that can't be applied to any other ship. At least training cruisers, I could reasonably expect to be flying Vagabond, Muninn, Cynabal, Stratios, Loki, etc with mostly crossover skills in a reasonable amount of time.

And yes, I recognize that a BS would probably be a better PvE boat, but for some reason I can't get excited about them, or see myself using them in PvP, and would rather more fully develop medium hull skills before going in that direction.

munins can be found out in null fleets like thrasher fleets. essentially the idea is that they just alpha everything off the field. but at the end of the day a large enough thrasher fleet can do the same thing at a 15th of the price. I will say they are good for small gangs as a medium ranged sniper, their increased tracking helps against smaller ships and with heavy alpha, and long range, they can effectively take out pesky kiters that tackle cant get to.

oh and how could you not get moist over a maelstrom!? such a sexy boat

The problem with the Muninn is that whatever you try and do with it another ship does it better... In fact the Zealot practically makes it obsolete...

Add into the mix poor fitting, Cap that's almost non existent, poor dps, and little utility space.... and this ship really needs some love.

Cynabal is a hit and run master, not really a PvE ship.... Its big brother the Machariel is one of the big hitters in PvE, but as you can see the Cynabal doesn't have the cap/tank/dps to do it effectively.

Muninn can be decent for PVE. Granted an ishtar is popular, but i don't have sentry drones, and I also like to move, not just drop drones and sit idly.

When I fight against Angels in DED sites my muninn has something like:

5x 720mm artillary cannon II
Improved cloak (allows me to hide/escape pirates)

Large shield booster II
Shield hardener II
10 mn AB II

3 gyros II
2 TE II
I think i need a co-processor

It works pretty well for what I use it for. I also have solo tanked the Garghest in a belt, but my DPS was just a little to low to break his tank. I got him to about 30% shield, but then it kind of stayed there. I think if I had switched droens and ammo I could have done it. Anything else though has yet to prove itself as a problem for me though. I ususally just keep range from most rats with the AB, and the shield booster lets me heal a bit.

Several issues:

- it only has 3 midslots which kinda messes up the "fast shield tanked ranged dps" thing
- its role is taken over by ABC and Ishtars (as explained above)

it's a combination of the Devs going "Minnie has been OP for ages so lets focus on other stuff for a bit" and the fact that it simply has no role that isn't done better by other stuff. The problem is that it's difficult to GIVE it a role, a use. It's the perpetual struggle between one side of the player base going "don't touch my Muninn, I know it's not any good but DON'T TOUCH IT!" and common sense going "we have to go forward and come up with a solution that may/will be radically different from the current version".

Read any thread with any upcoming changes on anything and it's full of angsty people who can not grasp the effect of said changes and thus are terrified of them, that or they want to keep the status quo at any cost because the current situation benefits them. In this case, for the Muninn to have any sort of relevance it would need some quite funky changes.
