Unclaimed systems in null

I have recently done some exploring, and was surprised at how many systems in null are unclaimed. I saw this on my trip to the remains of Steve in C9N-CC. I went through Feythabolis and part of Esoteria to get there, and almost all of the systems there were unclaimed.

I did some digging, and found quite a number of reasons (most rather old) why systems may be left unclaimed:

  • Someone considers them their own, they just don't want to pay sovereignty bills
  • Poor true sec rating making the systems uninteresting
  • It's easier/more rewarding to upgrade smaller, good clusters of systems
  • Since the jump changes, trouble defending larger territories
  • The systems are effectively unclaimable (NPC regions)
  • As a general rule, nothing is unclaimed without a reason.

Are these reasons still valid today? Are there more?

EDIT: Duh, turns out I AM a noob. Checked again using the Sovereingty window, and could not find any unclaimed systems.

Some say troll.

But the answer is either you were in npc space or N3 abandoned the system which means there were in the process of being flipped anyway.

New, no. Never really lived in null, yes. Long story short, RL does not allow for more than casual gaming - so null is not an option.

I guess you can say I'm new to null sovereignty.

Feythabolis is not part of NPC space, is it?

Who says that casual gamers can't live in nullsec?
There are more than enough poopsockers in every bloc to cover a few people here and there that can't be on all day.

It's not that I haven't tried, and the issue is not not being able to be on, it's about being able to sit in front of the game for more than 5 minutes straight. If you want to get anything done, even something casual, you need a bare minimum of 20 minutes. Sadly I can rarely do that, which has led to much frustration in the past.

Ah, yes, I could see that being a bit of an issue, unless you were to find a corp that's perfectly okay with you AFK ratting most of the time.

20 minutes in EVE? If that's all the time you have, show up, spin ship, log off. No harm. No foul. This "game" replaces things like watching stupid movies to kill two hours before you have to crash to get up and commute for an hour again. You are the movie. So...gee. Anyone spending scant time in EVE then proclaiming some sort of dissatisfaction with the game really has a gargantuan problem with scale. Even solitaire takes longer than twenty minutes....
...and it ships for free.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

you can thank the 2 massive powerblocs and their sov treaties for that, most of those systems that should be unclaimed are just waiting to be rented out

No, but its N3 space and it's been claimed for awhile

A system is only unclaimed it it says unclaimed in the top left corner where it normally shows who owns it

Anywhere in the East should work pretty well for that then.
Print a dotlan map of all nullsec regions, throw a dart, and you have a better than average chance of hitting a system with no one living in it. Pick that one.

We didn't want those systems anyway?
