Apologies if this has already been suggested or is already planned, I've been busy and not had time to look at the forums lately. With the changes to Jump drives this skill is rather redundant in the context of a hard cap of a maximum 5 LY range for all Capitals. So for simplicities sake, why not get rid of this skill, get rid of Jump Drive skill's levels and have it as a base skill with only one level that provides the 5 LY range for Jump Drives and reimburse everyone the skill points. From a new player perspective, it'll mean they can get in to Caps faster because there's less skills to train narrowing the gap between older players like myself and newer players.

Because the 5 ly max range is just that, the max range. You can still jump without JDC V, just not at max range. Pretty sure this is intentional, so not likely to change.

It is not redudant.. they nerfed all ships base range up to the point you NEED JC V to reach 5 ly

Sorry if this sounds a little elitist... but capitals are not a "new player" toy.

In a sense... capitals are like having a boat in RL; the best days of having one are the days you buy it and the day you sell/kill it.

Why is having more people that can quickly train into capitals a good thing? Capitals are part of the reason null-sec warfare is so FUBARed.

I agree with OP. As it stands the Jump Drive Calibration Skill doesn't carry a lot of meaning.

Being able to use jump drives - and jump 2.5 LY - is absolutely useless.

Most other skills will enable you to use a specific feature and only give you relatively small advantages for training the next level. Like +5% damage, cap and what not.

Option 1: Have JDC only add +5% to jump range and buff base jump ranges accordingly

Option 2: Put all base jump ranges to max range and give JDC some other bonus: like

  1. -2% cap usage at jump
  2. - some% fatigue
  3. minus something ...

Option 3: Give us back dat skillpoints. I know this is not going to happen :P

Also Capitals all take gates equally, so you don't 'need' max jump range.
That's a player choice by the Coalition leadership, not a CCP designated requirement.

Yeah, let's have more new players rush into caps.

So we ****-up null-sec even more then it already is. That will surely fix the problem.

P.s. I want my Battleship 5 requirement back.

If you think Cal 5 is a PITA, remember that you used to need BS 5 as a pre-req and then Cal 5 to be even remotely useful in a dread.

because there is a deference between JDC IV and JDC V just because that difference is smaller than it used to be doesn't mean its redundant now. Please remember capitals are not the only ones with this skill and it is a real choice of do i want to train this to V so my BLOPS fleet has more range or do i not spend the extra month and settle with my range at IV and train Cyno V or JFC instead.

Your other option is to not fly capitals. I have divested myself of all capital ships, because I don't want to deal with jump fatigue, and only take jump bridges when absolutely necessary.

Let me put it this way. Prior to the Nerf, 5 LY was Jump Drive level 5. In other words it was as if you hadn't trained Jump Drive Calibration skill at all. So increase the distances of Jump Drive skill to be in line with Jump Drive Calibration skill so at Jump Drive level 5 you can jump 5 LY and get rid of what is now a redundant skill for simplification's sake. Since almost every pilot is going to have Jump Drive skill to level 5, a prerequisite for Jump Drive Calibration, they'll get a range increase over night. Eve is complicated enough without being complicated for the sake of it. Those of us who have it trained get a points reimbursement to sink in to something useful. Those who haven't trained get in to the ship a little bit faster.

If they reduced the Training multiplier, they should reimburse skill points, otherwise I don't care. Reaching the max jump range is even more important now unlike before where it was a 11.25 vs 12.5 ly jump. the .2 from 4.8 to 5 is much more critical than the 1.25 from before.
