Weird shooting stars sometimes seen in space

Hey y'all!!

So I was flying around in my cynabal helping Necronomicon2 run some missions when I occasionally noticed what looked like a stars far off in the distance zoom across my field of view.

This isn't the first time I've seen this. I noticed it a lot when mining, but this was the first time I really asked myself "Wtf are those?"

So what are they? Ships going through jump gates? Comets? Random background effects added to make space seem more 'real'?

If anyone knows let me know!! I'm really curious...

3rd party warp effect?

Do you wear clothes while mining?

Nope!!

The life-support system on board my Mackinaw broke a while ago and provides the crew of my ship with Oxygen, but the air conditioning stopped working. Lets just say it gets really hot and sticky in my mining ship. Fortunately the crew doesn't seem to mind watching their captain walk around through the bulkheads wearing nothing but a g-string and bra. Blink

Back to the topic, anyone have any ideas what these 'shooting stars' might be?

Good girl. ^_^

When a ship moves, there's a small effect showing white dots that move around.

Maybe that?

Those are not stars.

They are boogers.

I'm pretty sure these odd Cosmic Girl96 threads are just an excuse for a guy to show off what he thinks is the hottest thing he could possibly make.

Funny answer: Your crew has to use the bathroom at some point... and because we capsuleers are always ready for combat we must jettison that extra mass as soon as possible so we can accelerate 0.00000001% faster.
Such "debris" then floats around in space for years... frozen... like little flecks of dust to us giants. Shocked

Serious answer: they are "particles" artificially added to give you a better sense of movement.

I think the 'shooting stars' are other ships in system warping around.

Testable. Turn up World sound.
Activate the advqnced sound menu.
Slide 3rd party warp effects to the right.

I love this sound!

I've noticed it, they come close to my ship and then disappear.

Is space dust. Shooting stars are heated material falling through atmospheres. I was fortunate enough to see the disintegration of some 'material' in the atmosphere a couple of years ago, never been quite sure what it was but it broke into three other burning pieces before disappearing.

At first I thought it was a firework but it was far too high in the sky to be one. What?

It's an artistic attempt at giving you the illusion of movement.
