We all know that changing characters without restarting the client would be too much effort for the functionality achieved.

As an alternative on the character selection screen how about having a pause and resume button for skill training per character?

This way when logging in with the intention of pausing a skill queue on one character to start a queue on another it would save you re-logging in.

Not bad, but I think I'd rather have a prompt in the skill queue window like: "Starting this training queue will disable the active training queue on your other character. Continue?" I mean hell, if Windows will let you shut down a computer while another person is logged in, with god knows what kind of important crap open and unsaved, this should totally be kosher.
