Rhea Update, Disrupted Older Computers.

I'm using a 2012 Slimeline HP with an IGPU with shared memory, it's rather slow on the graphics end. And I was playing at about 30 fps before the update, after this update I'm between 12-18 FPS and it's made the game for me at least hard to play.

Even zoomed out all the way I can tell the new graphics have increased the strain on the computer I am using.

I can't say this is effecting a lot of players as most people that play already have a decent computer, but it came as a huge shock to me today that I wasn't going to be able to play Eve and enjoy it until I go out and buy another computer.

I'm a computer science programming major, I understand the difficulties of progression and keeping performance, I've done everything I can for the computer I have at this time, and it's not good enough to efficiently play the game with out it being extremly choppy and laggy.

The only thing that CCP I believe should of done, was a few months back was to have a notice on their launcher that eve will with in a few months have an update that will increase the minimum requirements of a computer.

This way people who play everyday would of had some time to save up for a new pc, a new video card, and not be hit with this all at once.

I'm one of those rare people that still pay for their game with actually money, and I feel like I just lost out on the cash I spent because I can't do much.

The only thing I can do efficiently is station trading, and even I have noticed the windows are now slower.

I don't know what I expect from this post, I just felt that it needed to be shared that I, and perhaps others have now lost out on a great eve experience because the minimum requirements just shot up through the roof.

You probably need to update your video drivers or maybe mess with the directX settings in the client.

Necessary, hmm. How many people were actually complaining about the graphics not being realistic enough? I can't say this was actually necessary for eve at this time, just something they wanted to do.

Anytime you make a move that produces more strain on performance you lessen the number of people that are able to play your game.

They obviously calculated this move and most likely won't lose more than a few thousand players for a short period of time.

Minimum requirements have not changed.

Anyways, no one ever said that minimum requirements meant any sense of playability.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Turn off window blur. It reduced my FPS by close to 30, in some cases even more and also resulted in pretty severe frame rate instability. Turning it off has reasonably returned my performance to pre-patch numbers.

Also check the correct forums for issues and solutions or you'll get locked like so many others. :)

There was a post on Reddit about GPU strain encountered on Sisi. CCP reported they had successfully regressed on their GPU test suite. In game hit F12 and file a bug report (not a petition!).

Maybe not complaining but alot of people have been asking for the option to customize ships for years and I think that part of the move here was to get that closer to a reality. People have also been wanting a HDR upgrade for years - what do you think that will do to your computer?

Build your own pc. Dont ever go out and buy one if you intend to use it for gaming. Not only do you get more for your money by custom building, but you also set yourself up for upgrading your pc through it's life.

PCpartpicker.com is one good place to seek out the parts. You can build your rig, check compatibility and find good deals from some of the top sellers.

There's also a lot of tutorial videos that show you step by step on the actual build, setup and start up of your new pc.

Or buy all the parts and have a pc shop put it together for you.

I did a firmware update on my toaster and I now get 12 fps and toast.

All time record.

I'm sorry you've been having a bad experience. It's true that our minimum system requirements remain unchanged for Rhea.

While I don't know the details of your specific machine, since you didn't state your model number, I do know that some computers with integrated GPUs available new as recently as 2012 have not met EVE's stated minimum system requirements at any time since their release. In particular, our system requirements stated here:

http://community.eveonline.com/support/knowledge-base/article.aspx?articleId=124

require 256 MB of dedicated VRAM, which a shared-memory integrated GPU does not have.

You may be able to install an inexpensive PCI graphics card and meet the requirements, though. That would almost certainly be a far more economical solution than buying a new computer.

Given that the Art department is always backed up on new items I doubt it.

Next thing you know people will be upset when we no longer have textures from 1973 to go with the lighting.
