How do you put stuff up for sale?

I haven't played in a few months - came back and have stuff to sell so I clicked on the item, selected 'Sell this item' and found the whole interface had changed. Thinking 'how hard can it be' I set an appropriate asking price and clicked on 'Sell'. I get a message that there is no such item. What the ??? It is in my hanger, obviously, as I selected it to sell. So what happened to the old interface that I have used with no problem for years? Where is the new interface explained and why is it so counter-intuitive???

What you are experiencing is the new sell mechanic that support multi-sell.

And it seems you encountered an bug with it I also saw on one of my alts. I already sent a bug report but the answer of the GM was...far away from what i told in the report.

Because of your case here i tried it once again on my alt and it is still not working. I contacted now the support again and give you the hint to do the same. Maybe it helps.

What duration did you put the sell order up for?

I found that if the duration is immediate and there is no buy order above the amount i've set as the sell price that the interface fails the order (because no one is immediately buying).

I do the same thing with a 3 month duration and there's no problem.

Thanks Alhira. Good to know it is a bug. I had it set for a three month sale. I tried again today with the amount set to a couple less than I had in station and the sell order went through this time.

The lulz factor is... if you are selling 500 units and the buy order is for 300 units, then you receive the money for those 300 units and a sell order for 200 is automatically set up.

This leads to ******** situations like... you are at Jita 4-4 and there is a buy order for 66,666.90 isk and your "friendly interface" has set up a sell order for 66,666.91.

So you need to choose, you either set "inmediate" as default to avoid this, or are aware of the buy order size before nerfing yourself.
