The Golem is superior to the CNR.

However Mach vs Vargur is a more complex comparison. I would say they each offer a different set of choices and trade offs. It largely depends on the mission and your exact fit. Each one caters to a different play style really. But both are equally top tier mission boats.

Fun is totally a matter of personal taste. Personally, I like the Vargur.

One very important thing at least for me, Machariel goes around 600 m/s with Gist Afterburner.

One big plus to Vargur it can fit tractor beams and salvagers.

900 is seriosly less then 1300 dps or 1500 dps

So what?
It moves at 1400+ m/s and warps much faster than any BS, on top of that its damage application is better. I dare say it is the only ship that can rival a Machariel at blitzing l4 missions.

I was talking exactly about Machariel. It has better tracking, superior firepower, range and goes around 600 m/s with Gist afterburner or 1450 m/s with MWD (personaly never fitted MWD to Machariel, because 600 was fast enough for me)
