Hey, i have som noob questions. I havent played in a long time and i used to play just solo. But i want to play with others :) . Im a Caldari, can I play with players with a different race or do I need to pick the same as my friends? If I choose to learn to fly and use a ship from another "race" will I loose any certain benefits from my own ships?

Yep, nope.
Race affects appearance and starting skills. You can cross train into anything.

Anybody can fly anything without any racial buffs or nerfs. Most of my characters can fly all racial ships up to BC without a problem (just a couple of exceptions but those characters are hardly used).

Anybody can play with anybody...given you can stand playing with the person behind the keyboard.

Race is about looks. It only minorly affects your starting skills but not to the point where anyone older than a month is too concerned about it.

Not even a month. A player can cross-train all four races' starting skills in 1-2 days under the base remap.

List of ships my friend Aandaan can't pilot (4):

... because he's not bothered to train them (titan skillbooks are 5.5b each, so 22b for all four).

My list is a little bit longer (11):

Without implants, and without an attribute remap (i.e. actual training time can be much less):

* Time to train all races of frigate / destroyer / cruiser / battlecruiser / battleship to level 3: 17d 20h 52s

* Time to train small / medium / large / hybrid / laser / projectile turrets & support skills to level 3: 13d 11h 39m 30s

* Time to train rockets / heavy assault / torpedoes / light / heavy / cruise missiles & support skills to level 3: 12d 23h 6m 40s

Of course you'll want other skills to fit rigs, defences, drones, and such.

You will also need to move to where your friends are, which may seem daunting at first, but moving is a part of EVE.

Just be aware that you don't need to move all of your assets with you, and doing so may be asking for trouble.

This need to be highlighted more, met a whole lot of people over time that get recruited and move everything (often with encouragement to do so from the Leadership positions) Something happens where you are and suddenly your play options drop off.Its a good idea to have a lil cache of gear and ships scattered across known space and a nearby clone lets you keep on rolling.

I didn't.

Perhaps your Amarrian sense of humor explains why Gallente girls like us Minnies better. Lol

I trained Capital Industrial back before the prerequisites changed.

It used to be that if you could use a dread or carrier, and had Mining Barge 5, you could pilot a Rorqual, making them a very cheap mini jump freighter.

In fact, I only recently learned (as in currently training level 4) Advanced Mass Production, one of the new prerequisites.

You don't need every prerequisite to pilot a ship, just to inject the skill. Only the left-most skills, i.e. the first ones listed under primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary, etc., are required to board and use the ship: Capital Industrial Ships 1 + Capital Ships 2 + Jump Drive Operation 1

The great ship skill changes of summer 2013
CCP Ytterbium wrote:

  • The ORE branch (Venture, Noctis, Orca, Rorqual plus all mining barge variations) has been tweaked to a consistent progression. For instance, the Rorqual will not need Mining Barges 5 to be flown anymore, but will instead require the Industrial Command Ship skill at 3, itself requiring ORE Industrial at 3.
ORE Industrial skill didn't exist when I trained Capital Industrial! Shocked

With that skill overhaul, CCP vowed that “if you could fly it before, you can fly it now” , with one minor exception so far, navy battleships required an extra level which was deemed trivial to train to level 2:

CCP Ytterbium wrote:
Navy Battleships:

  • Increasing requirement to fly Navy Battleships previously known as Tier 1 (Armageddon Navy Issue, Scorpion Navy Issue, Dominix Navy Issue, Typhoon Fleet Issue) from level1 to level2 to make it consistent with other navy ships. Since the training from level1 to level2 only takes a few hours, we will not adjust your Racial Battleship level. Please make sure you train it before the change if you still wish to be able to fly Navy Battleships.

Crossdressing is all about looks and what you feel comfortable in. There is nothing wrong with it at all and once you have some skills built up, it matters less and less what you wear.

He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.

He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.
