Are you guys removing the F11 key side screen panel (i rarely used it anyway) then and replacing it with the floating new map as F11 key shortcut?

Yes, eventually we hope to remove it since the new map should better cover the same functions.

Awesome! Glad to see improvements coming to the star map!

It does really need a search function: here's a scenario I encounter several times a month

I'm in unfamiliar space following the incursions. I want more faction modules for my ship. I look for a loyalty point store.... and there's no easy way to look up "closest Minmatar LP store" or caldari, etc.

It would be cool to have a "search for station owned by -____ NPC corp-"
for example: "station owned by -Caldari Steel-" and you get a list of Caldari Steel stations, maybe a lost organized by number of jumps.

Anyway, that would be something cool to see in the next few updates

Keep up the good work!

I love the revamped UI and now this...do you even realize how awesome it looks ccp?
If its as easy to handle as its shiny this will be a huge improvement to finding anything in eve...i learn region layouts with dotlan...maybe not anymore after rhea

It's wonderful!

I like the 'Group stars by region' option
- It simplifies the star map and allows me to focus only on the current region I'm in.

Since I only use 1 monitor to play eve, I prefer the floating window option. The other options are a nice addition though.

The ambient track playing softly in the background is a nice touch, but I wish it was not so repetitious.

Now I want to go back to dual monitors..... Gave it up for a 30 inch monster.

Go on.. Snicker.

Great changes. Question though, does this integrate into anything wormhole life like? I know it's an odd question being that wormholes don't show up on the map, just curious if there would be any functionality improvements.

Yaay!!!!

Why maintain a 3D map view in addition to a "DOTLAN-esque" flattened 2D view? Is there a use case, that profits from the 3D view?

Well besides the obvious show off feature: "look, this is the whole EVE galaxy, doesn't it look awesome"...

The new map looks great!

I have one thing to say on the subject of it not being like Dotlan enough:

I think what makes Dotlan amazing is not only the 2D mapping which makes is super easy to read and efficient to plan routes but also the fact that it's an out-of-game tool that can be run on a second monitor.

Living in a wormhole and doing exploration, you already have so much windows opened permanently (Chat, D-scan, Probe scan, overview) that adding the map on top of that is cluttering and tedious.

Did you guys ever consider making your own browser tools?

Well... Jumprange is a sphere which is best shown in 3D. Sometimes systems look like neighbours but aren't (because z-axis).
Works on 2D map, too, yes, but 3D would be a nice to have.

Or take the new bright star "Caroline's Star", to locate it's origin you need a 3D view. Yes, again not a game breaker, but immersion is really nice.

Very impressed, a bit buggy with mouse scroll wheel.

Overall Love it has a much more modern and proper EVE feel to it imo.

Big +1

Being able to isolate regions or constellations is great. It might also be useful to allow a distance/jump filter. For instance, show me all systems within 5 gates. I think I read you are looking into adding the distance / l.y. ability.

And I know one theme I would love, the ability to see systems themed by asset values. Quite often I have buy orders out, and after a few months it would be nice to be able to quickly see where I get the biggest bang for the buck travel/time wise.

Oh one more thing!

Where's the Caroline Star?

Looking from MTO2-2 towards TRIBUTE there is no representation for the Caroline Star on the Beta Map? (The one in Jove space for the uninitiated)

Will the new map be showing these type of event related visuals as you iterate?

Looks amazing, but I have a couple issues with it.

These may be bugs for me, but one of the main things I dislike is the lack of information on clicking a system.

In the old map, if I turned on "show jumps", or whatever other information, and then clicked a system it would show the number of jumps. Now it shows nothing.

The other thing I'd like to see is when I zoom into solar system view it show the planets, even making them warpable, and not just the planetary rings.

Otherwise, looks great.

First impression: Woooooo Molden Heath love!! Nice to see my home get some publicity in the first image :)

Actual thoughts: Damn sexy new map. Really looking forward to the scalings and groupings. Region groups don't get much distinction atm, even though it can be a useful piece of information. This also makes me want a second monitor eeeeven more.

And really looking forward to future polishing. Something like the 'active overview' filters on d-scan. And a more intuitive filter menu than the current folders within folders would be welcome.

But all in all: Well done CCP!

Since Incarna I am very sceptical when CCP says: "this is version one, more improvements will come soonTM":
- Walking in Stations
- DUST-Integration
- Planetary Interaction
- Widgets near the Neocom

All this features where promised as "version one", improvements and further development never happened. Nothing changed so far compared to their initial release.

These modes can also be resized and makes it very easy to run the map on a second monitor full time.

I assume that it still runs inside the same window (as far as the Windows window manager is concerned) as Eve? So for it to run on a second monitor I need to stretch the Eve window over 2 monitors? Or is it a separate window?

Yes, same window as eve, you would need to stretch the eve window to two monitors.

Oh.. that's a shame

New map is nice and all but I will wait for "DOTLAN-esque" flattened 2D view.

Overall it's nice and pretty, but not really informative even compared to DUST map.

I really like "zooming" from system view to star map and gate directions. This should be also implemented with future 2D map.
Windowed mode - at last!

One negative impression - current map state will reset if map is minimized to Neocom panel.
