Ok so as the title says I'm going to try and scan for a few drones as ive been doing alot of data and relic sites so want to try something new!

JUst need a few answers to what do you lot think is the best ship to do this in as i need to fit a expanded lancher and a salvager incase i jump into a mission or finds any wrecks?

Many thanks
John.

I do this out in Null and rarely find drones unless there's been a pvp fight.

Create an overview to show drones, and save it.

Set you d-scan to the drone overview and when you enter an empty system, hit scan and then see what turns up.

You'll need scanner probes to hunt down the drones on d-scan, and all of them will appear separate but you need only scan on sig down to get them all.

You might find sentry drones or normal drones, or if your really lucky you'll find fighters and bombers.

I hear that fighters and such like, warp off to the edge of the system but i've never scanned any down.

As for ship type, something with a large cargo hold, especially if you find sentries.

Good hunting.

Been there, done that. Heron of the T1 exploration frigates has the most comfortable CPU capacity for the expanded probe launcher. Looking for drones you will find some interesting stuff, make sure you have salvager with you as well. And to save you some time, when you find drones, have a peek whether there is a ship in that spot too. 99% of times that ship will be using those drones, so you wont be able to scoop them. But I have to say that most of the drones I am using I scavenged this way,

Lowsec faction warfare regions. I did this one evening and was surprised at how fast my covops cargo hold filled up. The medium and large drones are pretty, well, large. Maybe a Probe with expanded cargo hold would be good.

Zappity's Adventures for a taste of lowsec and nullsec.

Follow the HQ Incursion systems.

Lady Areola Fappington:  Solo PVP isn't dead!  You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing.

Heron or Buzzard are good for the job. Low Sec faction warfare areas are littered with abandoned drones on a daily basis. Every once and a while I'll go out and do my part to rescue some of them. I even find integrated warriors or geckos on occasion. Oddest thing I've come across so far was about two dozen drones that seem to have gathered together at some random spot in space, no wrecks or anything else around. Shocked

That was midst likely a safe that someone scanned down and had a fight at. Or an old signature (wormhole) or expired anomaly location where a fight to place.

I'll do this to if I'm bored and have a lot of null connections in my chain. It's always fun jumping into a system where ratting is taking place and seeing dozens of t2 sentries, heavies, geckos and fighters on scan. Be aware that while fighters are expensive, they are also very large. Something like a DST is recommend for scooping bunches of fighters. (Cargo expander or two in the lows to get hold over 5000m3. Then drag them into fleet hangar).

I'm right behind you

I did this for a while when I used to do incursions in a legion, swapped the sub to the scanning one and scanned while i waited for a fleet. Even found a few Augmented Hobs.

Something like this might work for you - cheap, but still capable of running sites and finding drones, with a lot of cargo room (860 m3) to carry your loot.
