I wonder if you agree that Nightmare is better than all Amarr T1 battleships in mission running?

It should shouldn't it? for its pricetag...

Well, I would say Nightmare's pricetag is now very nice - 600 mil. ISK in opposition to over 1 bil. ISK in the past! It's trump card - ability to mount four tachyons with combined power of eight without energy grid overloading.

all things considered, the nightmare is a close second behind the paladin as far a laser ships go. its main down side is the lack of range bonus (range is more valuable than tracking in missions) while its main advantage is that its damage bonus is built in, so you do not need to train awfully long skills to get the best on-paper damage out of it.

I should buy an Ishtar.

yes the mare is better. And at half the cost of a paladin its a better deal as well. But the paladin was MADE for mission running so it does mission running slightly better.

Nightmare
Pros
-shield tank so all lows are DPS/tracking
-much cheaper than the paladin
-better tracking
-faster with AB- get to the GATE or get away from missiles

Paladin
Pros
-warps slightly faster
-tanks a hell of a lot better, but has to be stationary
-better range
-better salvaging/tractor-ing
*Edit- totally forgot EWAR immunity which is key in many missions to run them fast.

Both are much better than just a normal t1 battleship or a navy apoc at missioning. Their DPS is about equal, nightmare applies it better at close range while the paladin applies it better at long range.

I am not familiar with Paladin's capabilities but playing with EFT and Nightmare I discovered it can deal about 1000 turret/laser DPS while tanking Sansha rats at 3300 DPS level for 90 seconds. So 1000+3300=4300 dps tank+gank is awesome for laser mission boat! Yet the best tanking results Nightmare achieves against Guristas - almost 5000 dps tank for 90 seconds! Lol

If you are flying a Nightmare with enough value in modules to be worth ganking, please post your fit for critique so that the appropriate authorities can watchlist you and come and say hello.

FYI, there are only a handful of missions where the nightmare even needs a tank. i used to fly it with a pithii a-type small shield booster and finished pretty much every mission without trouble. 3300 tank is not only a complete overkill, it will also invite unwanted attention (and apparently already has).

I should buy an Ishtar.

I would like to introduce you to my good friends tracking disruption, damps, and ECM. They will happily make you wish you had bought a Paladin instead of a Nightmare in several missions.

I do not fly Nightmare but I consider it at my mission boat against laser weak rats (BTW, this is purpose of this thread) and that's why I play with EFT around Nightmare to watch its extreme capabilities. Of course 3000 DPS tank is crazy idea but it seems possible only at expense of severely limiting tachyons range.

meh, been there. nothing you can't manage, as far as lvl4s go. from what i heard some 0.0 plexes can be a tad harder.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I was running a dual pithi small booster tank on my low skilled alt's nightmare years ago. and yea a single booster works for most missions.

and yes nightmare is pretty dang awesome, although I have preferred the paladin for a pretty long time now.

Confirming that Marauders are utterly ridiculous in any situation other than going up against 6+ players.

simple

Tachion Nightmare is funny way: faster missions but sometimes you must move, use drones and watch for incoming damage and those pesky ecms

Mega pulse Paladin with some tacking enhancer and one LAR is the lazy and safer way: activate bastion, sometimes pulse LAR just in case, and lazorcook anything at 50km (including most of frigates).

Also: paladin is more skill intensive than Nightmare to work out at its best, but nightmare needs some cross training from amarr in order to be flown effectively (witch is shield tanked).
