[proposal] Drone repair function

Someone linked a nice picture in now.eveonline.com

Drone window

The picture shows (in the bottom right corner) a drone window with drones in bay showing damage!!!
Now on its own this is awesome because we finally can launch that OTHER drone that has not damage yet.
Instead of the same frigging damaged drone we recalled to be replaced.

Now my future idea on making use of this information is the ability to repair drones while there in your ships.

This could be done by for example using repair paste.
Time to repair could be role based on specific drone boats to reduce the time taken to repair.

Example:

Normal in ship drone repair speed 180 seconds.
Role Bonus for a drone boat (like Ishtar / Myrmidon / carriers / etc ) 60 second reduction.

Tell me what you think of this.

This already exists. They are called remote shield boosters, remote armor repairers, and remote hull repairers. Carry a Mobile Depot to swap out as necessary.

Since repping them is so cheap anyways this would not be OP

I like it

maybe a seperate drone maintenance bay that repairs drones every 30 seconds .. ofc it would mean drones that need fixing need too be seen in dronebay as damaged like they are in space

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

Nerf web strength, Make the blaster Eagle worth using

If you had looked at the picture .. you would see it DOES show damaged drones IN the drone bay.

Clearly the ship crews running the flight deck are lowly skilled peons incapable of even the simplest repairs beyond recharging the shields.

They done even do that. shields recharge themselves.

Using a paste or a mod or something would be preferred. no free repairs for you!

Being able to see the status of docked drones is all that is required. Repairs can be done in space using RR, as has been suggested. I don't believe more mechanics are required, such as in-bay repairs; just an update to the drone window display.

This (or similar, previously mooted deployables) are a fine idea. Might be nice to have something new rather than yet another Nanite Paste mechanic but can see both ways.

Suggesting everyone should carry around RR and Depots is idiocy.

No-one said everyone has to do it, but it is a choice if you want to repair on the fly.

Everyone cites the downside to having drones is that they can be destroyed, then basically wants to be able to sit in space forever easy-mode repping their drones.

You can repair drones in the station, meaning it takes more time, make a conscious fitting choice to add remote reppers, or take a Mobile Depot and reppers to change out if you want to repair them. Hell, you can even use repair drones on them.

With the damage showing in the Bay, as it appears it will now, these should be plenty. How much more do you need?

Drones are already easy-mode. The last thing we need is more buffs to them. I'd support, if repairing the drones made them inactive for 5 minutes.

So instead of carrying RR and Depot you would suggest drone users carry around this new module and a depot instead? Or sacrifice a utility slot to fit a drone repair module instead of a remote repair module?

Yeah, your idea is sooo much better... Roll

Bugger off!

If your ship is disabled for 5 mins because someone rep'd you then ok, otherwise see above.

Fit a remote repper and use your large drone bay to have replacement to use in the engagement. When you have more free time, use the repper to patch up the damaged drones. It's not like all your high slots are taken by weapons anyway...

The downside is it presumes cargo space is otherwise worthless and holding everyone up while you **** about with Depots and modules adds anything to the game. It's fine if you're mooching around doing exploration but not so much if you're roaming around with cap boosters, you know?

I'll repeat that all it needs is for the drone window to show the status of the drones. Then I can return damaged drones to the bay and know which drone to launch that isn't damaged. Otherwise I recall the damaged drone to orbit and RR it while it's close.

I have no problems fitting RR on a drone boat; it's not as if the high slots are the main source of dps.
