I object to CCP handing our 'special edition' items at public events

I think it's wrong and deceitful that CCP continues to hand out 'special edition' items at public events.

Yes yes I'm sure it states in the small print somewhere that CCP retains the right bla bla bla...

But what is the point of having a 'special edition' category?
Is it not to feed the idea that these ships and items will not be created in the future?
The Quafe megthron edition is in the standard ships category so we can predict that these ships will be sold and handed out by ccp at their whim but when I hear that the Taipan was recently handed out at the event in Australia it rather pisses me off.
Is CCP going to create 200,000 new Gnosis when it suits them or another 1000 CA-3 & 4 implants?

Look...i''m willing to play by whatever rules you set but lets keep the rules set in stone and predictable.

Let's hear your opinion on the subject.

CCP's attitude to limited edition content is just plain bad.

Given that we're only talking about a re-skinned and re-named version of an existing ship model, I don't know why they don't just create a new limited edition variant for each new publicity drive, rather than re-using existing ones.

Except the 'rules' that say CCP can do what they like and reissue items as they like (and do). The pirate rookie ships have been given out several times before anyway.

I do agree with you about creating new ones for each event, but they call them special edition rather than limited edition for that reason.

The rule is you don't know and anything is possible.
All your assets might be worth 0 tomorrow, including for a simple reason that the game might fold.

Oh, and also we are all going to die. Life is short ;)

They tend to be pretty explicit that they're time limited specials. That they can give them out again later.

Indeed. I don't have any issues with the "rules" or CCP's honesty about the limited/special nature of these items, I just think they are foolish to devalue their own incentives and prizes by re-issuing them.

It may be that CCP's tools are so bad that doing a pallette swap on a skin and publishing it is expensive in some way. But bad tools have never been a good excuse for anything.

And I'm not disagreeing that they've made this statement only that like others have said it's a bad policy.

Eve is not just a spaceship game it's a sandbox that takes place in space with many different games intertwined.
For myself the market game is highly enjoyable but is diminished when my hard work does not reap the rewards i desire not through fault of my own but from unpredictable outside forces.
It would be akin to suddenly lowering the damage on a ballistic control system when the pilot is already engaged in pvp.

I just operate under the assumption that any rare ship can and will be reissued.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

i assume the phrase 'special edition' is coming under scrutiny in this post. i would see that as an edition that comes in during special times, i would then draw such times to events. makes reasonable sense. limited edition on the other hand is different. limited edition comds i believe should not be reintroduced into the game. and this is how it goes, especially with the limited edition battleships. special edition by no means correlates to a one off time

Unless you're psychic and CCP is immune to your power, they're the least of your worries regarding trading.

In practicality, in an EVE database sense, where does it say that the State Issue Raven is a Limited Edition ship, in contrast to a Special Edition ship? As it happens, you can buy and sell the State Issue Raven in the Special Edition Ships section of the market along with the Taipan, Gnosis etc.

AT http://wiki.eveuniversity.org it is listed under "Database" > "Ship Database" > "Special Edition Ships" > "Special Edition Battleships"

In other words, if they reissue the battleships as a new tournament prize, what would your argument against it be?

This happens almost every patch. Anything (and everything) in EVE is always up for grabs when it comes to change. That is what we like about it.
