its a reflex. really. Firstly, most of the time i don't even check how "old" the opponent is. Secondly, it doesn't even matter since it could be an alt used for getting intel. So you don't want to keep unknown people on grid if you care about the space you live in.

Its not about showing who is stronger or beating someone who is already down etc. Its just basic combat, don't take it personal. Part of the game.

Additionally, ISK damage is also the only damage you can really do to the opponent. So in a war you want to cause as much of it as possible. And pods can be sometimes quite expensive due to implants, so kill them if you can. Even if all you so is to explore, people don't do a background check on you before they chase you out of their wormhole ;)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The simple truth is most pilots in low sec or null will take an opportunity kill when it's there. You see a lot of random stuff in this game, you never know when the noob in a scanning frig will turn out to have a stupid amount of loot in their cargo or a crazy amount of implants in their head, so for a few rounds of ammo it's usually worth it.

Chased a Procurer 5 jumps though lowsec with my wolf. Finally caught up to him after shedding gateguns, killed him, checked his wreck...

And holy sh*t.

It isn't even just about a "shoot everything" mentality. Some of us operate under strict RoEs that dictate what we can and can't engage. However, once a target is identified as legitimate, the question is not so much "why would you shoot the pod" as "why would you NOT shoot the pod". It's just another valid target to be removed from the area.

Some of us like to collect corpses in the hopes that one day we will be able to mount them on the walls of our captain's quarters. The only way to collect corpses is to pod people.

Some people have really high bounties and carry high grade implants at the same time, adding a slight monetary incentive.

Kill the pod recon. His fleet mates can't warp in on a corpse.

train Infomorph Psychology to V so you can have five jump clones. Now join the Estele Arador corporation, pick any five stations you prefer. You have to physically fly out to the station you choose to install a jump clone. Once you have installed your clones, quit Estele Arador,
A jump clone would allow you to switch to a clone that doesn't have any implants before you venture into dangerous space. When you get back home, jump clone back to your training clone. Research 'Jump Clones'. You only need Infomorph at 2 or 3 when first starting.

In a sandbox "because you can" is all you really need to understand, that being said, trying to understand "why" is an exercise in futility as it could be for any one or many of a plethora of reasons.

Had a corp mate once who collected corpses ... had a couple of hundred in his hangar. Big smile
