I would say join a good corp.

If you need help with that mail me, as solo pvp when you're a beginner can get rather discouraging.

As the title suggests, this is what I want to do. What's the best starter (Gallente), ship should I be going for and how should I fit it?

Are there any corps out there that like to take complete new players on to teach the fine art of PvP?

Fastest path to PvP is suicide ganking with a catalyst. YOu can start killing retrievers in a day. Mackinaws in a week or two.

I found fw to be a good place to learn in conjunction with reading guides, flying cheap hulls and throwing yourself into fights. Took a chance against a destroyer solo today and won so don't run away from a fight just because you think you may lose. Even if you lose any new encounter is a learning experience.

Also I've made 200mil isk just from plexing which pays for plenty of frigate. Unless you've got another source of income can be difficult funding pvp outside fw.

Edit: btw I fly kite fit Tristan's but do have good drone skills. Atron may be more suitable for low skill points

Get a tanky frigate go find a giant furball of a fight and dive in, neither side will realize you aren't with either one and tanky ships are usually not primary because they take too long to kill, plus if you shoot at everyone you are guaranteed a good killboard.

Duels. Try those. They easy and less prone to get you blobbed (will get you podded though, so gtfo if you dies)

The secret though is to go in trade hubs and AVOID the local duelers, theyl wrek your face. That should get you a few kills and some good xp. Try to duel player your age, most important.

Now hate me all you want, but go do duels in noob systems and around (you sound pretty new so I dont think its a problem). Point is the players in those systems are as cluless as you are and will allow you to "pvp" at a softer pace.

When youre confortable with how your ships flys and so forth, get into a 1 man corp or small pvp corp and declare war on others and get some xp fighting the odds.

My 2 cents anyway.

p.s or you could do the classic "get 100 frigs and go welp them in fw space", that also works

1. Get in a ship
2. Put guns on it (load the guns)
3. Go get dead & learn something from each loss
4. Rinse and repeat

RvB

Cheap ships, lots of fleets, events and even and FC LP program.

I started there and got over 2000 kills in 18 months.

Ya, best way would be to get a dozen cheap ships to a lowsec border next to a warzone and then just dive in. If you want pvp-experience, you should also skip joining FW for now so you can fight against both sides.

I'd suggest cheap ships, like meta-fitted tristans or thrashers. Get 10 os those and you still only spent 30mil :D

^^ this....tristans and if you arent drone-centric yet, incursus', i would fit with blasters....regular tackle in mids....and an aar armor tank for the lows.

doubling the targets is definetly going to get you more fights...more fights....more figuring things out.

i will say though that i havent had first hand experience but some fly FW stabbed, so dont be surprised to see people warp out if the fight looks like it isnt going their way.

the quickest path is "set destination" to the nearest low-sec system and start hunting....just stay away from gates and stations.....the guns will eat you for breakfast.

always update your clone.

I tried to update my clone as you said I should. I'm having difficulty. Could you talk me through it??

I am still learning but I have learned alot by doing 3 things: Joining FW, Join a good FW corp that is noob friendly, get into fights and talk to the people that killed you. You may have to put up with some bragging but they will often give you some good advice.

Wouldn't say FW is a good place to learn and to get regular PvP, mostly because of the quality of PvP - majority of targets are stabbed, and those that aren't either outship you by a larger margin or have friends on standby.

If you've established an ISK fountain for yourself - do RvB. It's less of a hassle and the fight density is likely to be higher. You buy ships, pay Red Frog some odd 5mill to ship it to one of the RvB systems that are like 2-5j out, arrive at location, assemble/fit and undock.

i think the guy who started this thread already got the answer, but i hope there are some other newbies looking for pvp and gonna read what i write. first of all even if you want to do pvp or not, you need the basics. and you not gonna get them via duelling other clueless newbies wich is useless anyway, or just pvping in losec and get blown up. if you have no idea why you lost the fight, you have no chance to learn. so. if youre a newbie, drop me a mail ingame, i will send you 2mails i wrote to my newbies some months ago, mostly about skilling, and some basics. try to get help from pvpers. ask them about these, and learn about these: insta undock, insta dock, safe, scan and tactical bookmarks. dscan. its important. tactical overlay. grouping guns. using the right ammo. using the right orbit range. manual fly, manual fly tracking or counter the manual tracking. sig radius, speed armor shield and hull tanking. optimal range, fallofc range, gun tracking and the effects of them. angular velocity and getting in range with spiralling. if nobody gonna tells you about these, they hard to figure out on your own. and my newbie rules are: skill, dont go to losec nullsec or wh dont accept duels dont touch yellow stuff dont shoot red or yellow blinky ppl... i know oki, but a newbie alone should stay safe until they have some clue about how to engage or disengage a target. fly safe until you can fly dangerously =D

Quickest path is to just do it over and over and over and over and over again.
If you die review your fights. If you even go so far to record them you will learn even more.

Fit out a lot of frigates and try to get as much engagements as possible.

All theorie wont help ya to get rid of the shakes only practice. If you got rid of those to a point
fly more expensive shoships or start engaging grps but only if you started to understan the
coMbat situation fully.
