Since all distances you see are relative to your current position, you have no means to figure out how far one point in system is away from another. So what I believe is a necessity for our beloved map view, is to have a damn ruler button (for some reason it won't display full-res image, but an ugly preview, you will need to download the image to comprehend the divine beauty). Upon activating the ruler, you click two objects/bookmarks/whatever in the system and get the distance between them. Like, you know, in Google Earth and stuff.

Why would one need a ruler in space you may ask. Simple. To triangulate, evade, plot a cunning plan and so on. Especially when combined with another useful and needed UI helper.
