everybody can train to fly ALL the ships and weapon systems available in EvE so it does NOT matter...faction is all about role play and the looks. :)

Which ever one you decide.

Each empire faction has it's flavor of ships and weapons systems. It's easy enough to crosstrain in any of them.

So really it comes down to you.

Are you more interested from a lore perspective? Are you asking with regards to Factional Warfare? Are you asking because you feel there is one preferred faction to associate with? As far as the game and the mechanics go there is no real difference.

Join the Minmatar Republic and help us cast off the persistently oppressive and hated Amarr! They claim you are theirs no matter what you think. Stop their religious persecution of all other peoples in the cluster! We fight for the freedoms they so badly wish to take from you. Our brothers and sisters are forced into slavery as fuel for their terrible machinations.

All that your race determines is where in the universe you start (and you can get to the other racial starting areas quickly and in moderate safety), and your initial low-ranked skills.

If you start Minmatar, you'll begin with a few hours worth of skill training in Minmatar frigates, shield and artillery skills, but nothing that an Amarr player could not cross train into within a few hours.

You can then choose to be loyal to any of the empires (through missions and/or factional warfare), or loyal to certain pirate factions, or not be loyal to any NPCs. That's your call entirely. There's *slight* advantages to being loyal to the Caldari State overall at the moment in my opinion but nothing significant.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

In terms of which character to start with I believe the majority who have no roleplay aspect or allegiance to a specific empire will start up a Caldari capsuleer. The reason for this being that it is easier and quicker to skill up in Caldari methods as they are largely missile based. The other races and especially the Minmatar need most skills dependent on ship type.

this is false, any race can train for any ship and weapon system at the same rate. if i make a minmatar/amarr/gallente toon right now, i can immediately inject and train the skill Missile Launcher Operation just like a caldari toon.

please stop giving wrong information. What?

I think Bethan's statement was effectively accurate, as most new players pick a race and then skill that race's weapons and ships first. They don't pick a race for the lore and then skill another races ships and weapons. However, Caldari missile systems don't dominate the PvE arena as they once did.

To the OP there is IMO only one real difference between the races and that is in the noob ship you get. The most important differance between the noob ships are in cargohold sizes, with the Amarr being the worst and the Gallente being the best (largest). This has impact when using them as throwaway cyno ships with the Amarr one (for example) needing one or more extra expanded cargohold module to carry the required fuel. A seemingly trivial difference but which is repeatedly irritating.

Personally, I never understood why every station in Eve stocks all 4 noobs ships and hands them out based on your race. I think they should only stock their own race and give it out to all comers. But that would require that the racial frigate skill be removed from them or every new character should come with all 4 racial frigate skills pre injected.

I do believe OP has quit the game. Or decided to make a new character on the race he wants.

Uhm wrong.

You are right in that Minny can be a bit more skill intensive with some armor and shield fits.

But there isnt a hug difference between the races.

I think the main reason of mainly Caldari characters might be cause of alts. And for a trading / market alt, nothing is easier then to start just a handful of jumps from Jita.

Slightly OT, but: that has been the case since the great ship skill changes a year ago. Noob ships no longer require racial frigate skills.

Back to the OP: As everyone else has said, race doesn't really matter, so chose whatever lore and/or looks you like more.
If you still can't decide, join Gallente and, more specifically, the Center for Advanced Studies, as it's the best starter corp out there. For unknown reasons, we are much more active than other starter corps. But for most careers, you should not stick in your starter corp, so even that doesn't matter in the long term.

In EVE, there is no best.
