As a seasoned veteran of another popular MMO I am 2 days into a trial of this game and so far I am hugely impressed. A chat channel dedicated to helping new players? the best you could hope for is a response in the game I have come from and it would probably be sarcastic and/or insulting. A GM contacting me voluntarily to check how I was enjoying the game and if I had any problems ? You would have absolutely no chance of that in the game I have been playing. From afking for hours with nothing to do a few days ago playing my old MMO, I am now hugely excited about the prospects of developing my capsuleer down the mirriad of skill paths available to me. As a fellow newly-awakened capsuleer, I can't tell you how much I agree. This game is so... infectious. I'm still in the starting NPC corp and have only done the basic missions and SoE Arc; this content is considered by many to be the most boring part of EVE. The sheer complexity and beautiful intricacy of the game balance alone is staggering. I think this game is a work of art, in many ways. I haven't had the time to really dive into the game, but every day I am reading the forums and some sort of informative guide/post/blog etc. The community, the fear, the risk, the reward, the options, the seemingly endless possibilities... there isn't a day that goes by where I don't read about some aspect/gameplay of EVE that I didn't know about. No other game has ever truly captured my attention and impressed me more than EVE.

In 2001 I started college at UF and chose the Digital Arts and Sciences Engineering as my major, which was as in the College of Computer Engineering. It was a very new major, a merger of the computer engineering and fine arts colleges. My core classes were from both colleges. It taught me to see video games and all the associated disciplines that go into them (programming, level design, modeling, etc) as art forms. EVE doesn't just hit this on many of the structural levels, but rather ties it all together in this shifty, dark underworld of player-driven content where out of game interaction is pretty much required. It's a beautiful thing.

Welcome to Eve. The most addictive game ever created imo. Doesn't matter how many times you quit, you will always come back. Pirate

I made a similar mistake with my first character too. The GM responded by asking me to point out which other player I had encountered with blue text. Once I realized a staff member for player retention was responding to me sarcastically for my stupidity I knew I was playing the right game.

I wasn't a new player when I received a personal chat request in-game from CCP Dev. I had already been playing this game for a few years and when it happened, I thought I was in trouble for something.

Turns out the CCP Dev was doing a survey on various aspects of the game and my name had been forwarded to him. What started as a personal chat quickly moved to a Player Chat Channel I was in. Gotta say it was quite a surprise to the other channel members to see a CCP Dev in chat.

Big smile

Anyway, with Downtime quickly approaching I told the CCP Dev if I wasn't back online afterwards, he could ask the other players in the channel his questions.

Needless to say when I logged back in right after DT, the CCP Dev was still in the chat channel, ready to continue his survey. Mainly it was basic questions about my game play experience, my likes and dislikes, possible game mechanic changes, bugs / problems, etc. The conversation actually lasted for a couple of hours.

Liars! All of you! Everyone knows that CCP DEV's are a myth like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. What kind of mind altering drugs were you all on when you had these so-called conversations? My money says your answer will be: Crack. LolTwisted

I remember a while back, when I was getting a friend to try Eve, a GM got in touch with him and I went into paranoid-mode thinking someone was impersonating a CCP employee and trying to scam my friend. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was an actual GM.

Anyway, welcome to Eve! Good luck and fly dangerous!

Come to think of it I had a GM contact me at the start as well... Was very interesting... Although I was afk at the time and didnt actually get a chance to chat to them.

EDIT: Oh and I thought it was some hacker trying to get my details at first as well... Until I saw this thread... No game could actually be that engaging of their players?? Could they??? lol
