Technically, he served for one term and resigned in the middle of a second. However, your point stands that the law limiting presidential tenures to one term has been changed.

Well, depending on what qualifies a voter, I'll be interested to see how this pans out. As much as the Federation is an entity I exercise my freedom of speech to disdain at length, it is the home of my ancestors and living family. As a result, I hope that we capsuleers, even those estranged from but not in opposition to our homeland, are granted the right to vote for who we feel best represents us as a nation.

I suspect that the only vote that will prove to be important in the coming elections is Jacus Roden's. If he decides that it would be best to serve for another term, then he will be president for another term. If he decides not to run, he will not be.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

My investigation into the blanket silence regarding elections this year has led to me a suspicion.

President Jacus Roden assumed office in YC 111, three-years into the five-year second term of then-President Foiritan. The actual presidential election should have occurred in YC 113. As this situation is largely unprecedented, I begin to wonder if the Federation will be withholding election until the year YC 118, the year that an election would normally be occurring and keeping President Roden in office for 7 years, thus finishing out the two years left on Foiritan's term plus his own five year term.

That would be unconstitutional, any term length shouldn't exceed five years. If anything he would have had elections two years ago at what would have been the end of Foiritan's second term.

While I'm inclined to agree on principle. What happens in practice is often "unconstitutional" of late.

For some reason, I think I would almost be inclined to vote for you...the enslaving thing might be the only stumbling block though. But at least it sounds more honest than most other politicians' promises.

Yes, that was - in fact, the meat of my post. The only likely change is that Mentas Blacque comes from behind the throne and the Kingmaker becomes King.

Or we will finally stop procrastinating, start all scale invasion and arrest both Blacque and Roden for crimes against the State and humanity.

I will pay much to watch Blacque sneak up behind Roden and clobber him in the head with a sufficiently heavy blunt object.

I'm not making any specific excuses for the lack of election coverage - I would simply remark, however, that the news channels we have access to have been extremely quiet in general, not just on this topic.

Of course, it would work. But I would prefer more civilized approach, and put them to tribunal, so peoples can see and hear these criminals, when they would confess and plea mercy for their lives, and will be still executed, to show to everyone what awaits those, who dare to attack our glorious State!

Clearly rather than holding a presidential election the Federal Senate should humbly request that the Empress appoint a viceroy

Your suggestion is noted, Admiral.

Don't hold your breath for a majority vote, however.

Something tells me you shouldn't hold your breath for any sort of vote, Liam. It seems democracy is out of style in the Federation, these days.

I wouldn't be so certain of that, Commander Tuulinen.

The voter-eligible population of the Federation is something upward of 16 trillion individuals. The capsuleer population within that population is less than 1%. It's entirely possible that we simply aren't seeing the advertisements and campaigning we normally see because the politicians have decided it is better for them to keep us out of the loop.

Nah, let there be election, but the candidates must do their unique form of wriggle dance during the debate. The candidate who inspires the most number of citizens to do their variant of the wriggle dance gets to be president.
