A buddy of mine is having a very bad problem with updating his EVE client to Crucible he keeps getting this error.

(7/7) Applying patch: Initializing ...
Restoring: bin\Awesomium.dll
Deleting downloaded temporary data
Traceback (most recent call last):

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\bin\\tmpjj6abe.repair'

He has used the latest repair tool to no avail it keeps giving him the same problem. Ultimately he is trying to avoid re-downloading the entire client simply because he is running a low DL speed. So any help will be appreciated as long as it doesn't have to do with the repair tool we already tried using.

same issue here. Repair tool gets to 3/7 and then fails over and over.

This was answered in the GD board earlier, basically the gist of the solution is to manually delete everything in your user profile temp directory [user profile dir]\LocalSettings\Temp (make sure to enable viewing of hidden files and folders and system files, stuff hides in there) Some files will be locked by the OS, don't worry about those it's ok if you can't delete those.

Should fix it...

If not try this:
Manually clear everything that will allow you to delete it from [user profile dir]\LocalSettings\temp. Make sure you have view hidden and view system files enabled, some things are hiding :P

Clear your cache folder manually. It should be something like [user profile dir]\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\[drive]_[folder]_eve_tranquility\cache or something similar, empty the contents of that folder, or delete it all together. That will effectively clear your cache. Sometimes it fixes a broken patcher. Becareful what you delete though, you could delete your settings and have to redo all those again if you accidentally delete more than the cache folder. If you don't care, then just delete the whole folder above the cache folder and that should reset everything for you.

Empty out the [user profile dir]\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\downloads folder before attempting to patch again as well.

Well I managed to sort it without resorting to above. Fortunately the repair tool worked for me this time.

Found an ugly solution, but it works.

Go to "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE"
Right-click "bin" -> tab "Security" -> Advanced -> Tab "Permissions" (selected by default) -> Change Permissions -> "Add..." -> "Advanced..." -> "Search now".

There should be a user "everybody". Select him and click "OK" (windows will close). Select "OK again (this windows will close, too).
Now a popup should open, with two columns. One "allow" and one "deny". Mark every "allow". Press "OK".

Close tall the remaining windows by "OK".

My Windows is german, so the options might be translated different, than I think.
If you have some experience with Windows: Just allow "everbody" everything to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin".

Restart the repair tool. :D
Done

@CCP: Which permissions are requred to solve this, without these ugly security settings?
