Jump Freighter construction without a JF pilot

Hi Big smile

I’m planning my T2 manufacturing career and Jump Freighter construction seems like it would be demanding but profitable.

Key points:
  • I can train basic JF construction skills in about 30 days
  • Training JF pilot skills would take another 90 days (yuck) and I don’t really want to make hauling my career.
  • It seems like packaged JFs are too big to transport in any kind of freighter.
  • I understand that capitals like jump freighters need to be built in low-sec / null-sec station or POS. (is this still true?)
  • I would probably be building JFs in sovereign null-sec space (not-blue-shoot-it), but might be able to manage construction in a low sec NPC station.

Question:
How can I move JF’s from sovereign null-sec to somewhere with customers if I can’t pilot them?
(Get on the Hauler’s Channel, ask for collateral and pay them to move it? Make some new hauler friends? What?)

i think that orca/freighters/JFs can be build in hs (as they can effectively go into those systems) but i am not 100% sure

Orcas, Freighters and JFs can be build in HS in stations as well as in (Adv) Large Ship Assembly Arrays at a POS. They are an exception from the usual rule that capitals cannot be build/flown in HS. So no real need to do that in low or null sec.
To answer your questions:
If you can't fly them, you can't move them on your own, that's true. You could of course contact one of the big hauler corps like Red Frog (Black Frog is their JF corp if I'm not mistaken) and try to strike a deal with them. In that case I guess the collateral should be higher than the value of the freighter, and the payout would have to be low enough to make it worth it.

@ Elvandari and Selaria U.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Hi-sec manufacturing solves a lot of issues for me. Now all I need are some skills, some blueprints and a bajillion ISK worth of materials.

If you cannot (and nor can one of your corp-mates) fly a JF, then you won't be able to build at a POS; so you will be restricted to building and then selling in the station you choose (as you won't be able to move them).

I can confirm, however, that they are buildable in any Station with a Factory-line - and always have been (as are Freighters and Orcas). It's Carriers, Dreads and Rorquals that are restricted to Low Sec and below (wait out for possible future changes); Supercarriers and Titans only at Sovereign held Super-Capital array fitted POS sites.

PS - having just seen your most recent post; I have an Obelisk and, perhaps, a Fenrir BPO you might like. Big smile

Don't soil your panties, you guys made a good point, we'll look at the numbers again. - CCP Ytterbium

I was selling Anshar BPC Packs until CCP decided to screw the copy prices with Phoebe. If they sort their lives out soon, I sell all the BPC you need to build an Anshar. Capital components and Jump Drives are 10/20, Anshar BPC is 5/10 and Obelisk BPC is 5/6 if you want one. Just collect the materials and job jobbed.

Frog will move it for you.

If you want it moved within hisec, send me an EVE-mail to arrange it.

No, seriously.

People have trusted me with more: Example 1 and Example 2.

While you can train pretty quick for the skills to put a JF together, it's the advanced capital components that will kill you.

They are rarely for sale and need to be built. And you need to build a lot of them in a lot of flavors. Fortunately they aren't really expensive compared to the component BPs for freighters but require a lot of time to train for and a lot of time to research before you can get started. Of course, you'll still need to build freighters as they are required for JF builds and those component BPs will set you back 4.5 to 8 billion depending on level of research. You can buy BPCs for them but it's a pain in the ass for the capital cargo bay BPs (for example) as you need so many of them.

JF building is not something you should jump into without a lot of thought. I build them and it took a year or so before I made back my initial investment and started turning a profit.

I wasn't aware copy prices had been altered in the Phoebe release. Can you link where it says they have been changed or say what has happened?

Sorry about the delay and you probably know this anyway now. But Phoebe's initial release saw a change to report usage. The reports needed was changed to include per copy runs and copy numbers. This saw the number of reports needed to produce capital component copies jump from the low hundreds to hundreds of thousands.

This was corrected yesterday and now no reports are needed to produce copies.
