Lesson 12: Learn to spot a surrender scam and use it to your advantage. Anything not attached to a surrender offer, such as contracting an Orca to someone or transferring 1Bil ISK directly to a personal wallet, is a scam. (I didn't fall for either.) Demanding more than someone has at risk for a surrender is generally not a good idea either. Mentioning that your surrender is based on some bloated hourly ISK income isn't really a good idea because it may cause someone to deliberately draw out negotiations. (I totally did this.)

Funny thing is, you moron, that wasn't a surrender scam. We are wormholers, we keep our word. You are a silly, over-smug douche.

What I found really amusing was your little baby tear-fest, when you were claiming that you wouldn't ever be logging in for a long time, so there was no way we could harass you.
Hilarious. And now you are talking ****, I'm assuming because you want your ass handed to you....
I look forward to your future tears.

Given the offers I was receiving from your CEO, I figured that your CEO was either trying to scam me or that he was outrageously stupid for demanding more from a surrender offer than I had at risk. I chose to be gracious and assume the former of the two options. Was I wrong? Are you saying that he really is that stupid?

Also, the last time I checked, over-smug douches don't come to the forums with their hats in their hands admitting when they've bitten off more than they can chew and politely giving their opponents kudos for defeating them. I hear that they do, however, talk lots of smack, make idle threats, are generally unpleasant, have anger management issues, and don't know how to take compliments.

Sharing experiences and talking **** are two completely different things sir. I share what I've learned for the benefit of others, either so that they may learn from my (mis)deeds, or get a good chuckle from them. Talking **** is generally not meant to be informative or entertaining and instead attempts to demean, insult, or belittle the recipient, none of which appeals to me in the slightest.

I said that I was going to be using the infinite skill queue to take a hiatus over the holidays, and I intend to do just that. I've pulled all of my assets together, sold off excess materiel, and am setting up some long-run PI jobs to make a little ISK while I'm away. Once I get that last item taken care of, I should only have to log on twice a month or so until after the holidays and by then I'll likely be ready to get back into things. However, given that the infinite skill queue doesn't become available until after DT tomorrow, isn't it a bit premature to be making accusations of breaking my word?

I sincerely hope you're okay with disappointment regarding my tears; I shed no tears over EvE, it's only a game.

I do enjoy our little chats Elbee. You're quite the conversationalist.

This is the truth. It takes a gentleman to recognize and admit his errors. The only one here talking smack is Elbee.

Lesson 14: When anchoring a secure container, don't forget to set the password. While doing a little old-fashioned exploring, I came across an offline POS with a Giant Secure Container anchored below it. Whether the owners were simply being frugal and only putting the tower online when necessary or forgot to refuel it I'll never know, but they had left a cache of goodies in the anchored can that I promptly absconded with. Hardly a king's ransom in ISK by any means, but certainly worth it's weight in hilarity.

I once stole a Rifter from an offline POS. Still have it.

Lesson 15: When sitting on a gate in losec, if someone comes along in a frigate, locks you up, and starts chatting with you in local, it's probably a trap. Our little chat about PI kept this Cyclone pilot on the gate long enough to get a Navy 'Geddon and a Myrmi on both sides of the gate and after that, it was just ping-pong.

Corollary to Lesson 15: The person in the frigate springing the trap really appreciates it when you aggress them after you realize that you're toast so they can get on the killmail without getting fried by gate guns.

Lesson 16: Exploration can actually be profitable and fun. I'm not speaking of hacking or archeology, I'm talking about hopping in a ship, picking some seemingly out-of-the-way destination, and looking for stuff to steal or blow up. I've spent the past week or so roaming around various Amarr losec regions a half-hour at a time and between lab contents, moon goo, wrecks, and random cans, I've absconded with at least 350mil ISK worth of stuff (less 50mil for one necessary wardec) and gained some potentially profitable intel regarding the locations of a few large POSes doing seemingly expensive stuff with minimal defenses. Good times with a minimal time commitment. I should go on hiatus more often....

Corollary to Lesson 16: Do not attempt what I described in Lesson 16 without a good Blockade Runner pilot on another account, unless you want to lose most of your profit. So incredibly handy....

I can confirm this. In my case, during one of our roams, we once came across a humble, newbie-like Incursus which was acting a little suspicious tbh (landing on gate without jumping, staying on gate for a while etc.) We engaged him of course. Roll

Well, apparently that Incursus wasn't that innocent and it ended up being a very good trap.

I have to admit though: in addition to the WTF moment we had, the scene looked quite impressive (especially thanks to my camera view which was zoomed out at that very moment, resulting in a perfect vantage point). It was like one of those cool moments similar to the ones seen in this glorious video.

That day's lesson for us was: before engaging an easy-looking target who acts weirdly, think again. (Of course we knew this as a general rule, however, we hadn't expected a frigate to do that Smile)

Also, ships like the Procurer, Prophecy and Myrmidon can be quality baits as well.

Concerning exploration in Amarr lowsec, constellations like Pezarba and Fua tend to offer enjoyable situations and anomalies without being over-populated.

You should name that Rifter "the POS guy".

I'm quite familiar with Fua and the associated losec pipe. I cut my teeth on PvP there years ago. Great place to fart around looking for a fight. I specifically chose to not go there this time around because I know it so well already.

Lesson 17: When scouting and there is a 100 AU warp involved, be mindful of the difference in travel time between, say, a CovOps and an attack Battlecruiser. The mishap detailed below would likely have been avoided if I hadn't forgotten that basic fact.

Lesson 18: When moving into a new portion of losec, making sure you actually have standings worked out with the locals that you think you have standings worked out with is important.

Bad things happen when you don't. Fortunately, the CEO of my aggressors noticed the oversight right away and fixed said standings.

Lesson 19: When you pop someone due a standings mishap, prompt reimbursement and apologies speak much about your character. I got the former from their CEO and the latter from both the CEO and the pilots involved within minutes of the incident. Kudos to these fine folks, and I look forward to flying with them in the future.

I've gotten surprisingly little mocking. It's almost like the C&P crowd isn't the bunch of rabid sociopaths that some folks take them to be. Roll

Lesson #20: Even noobs can kill. A 100mn might let you keep range on one or two, but not 57...

Lesson #20.b: Don't keep pimping a ship over time because you haven't lost it over several months of pew. You will lose it eventually.

If you like, but I consider the issue resolved. I suppose it depends on whether Zappity feels appropriately mocked. I know I would.

In all seriousness though, stuff like this I really enjoy reading because it provides me the chance to avoid making the same mistakes, and instead discovering whole new ones. Or failing to recall the lessons learned here and repeating their mistakes (or ones similar).

Lesson 20: Valuable loot can be found in plain sight if you but look. I was on the prowl again looking for POS mods to shoot in losec when I hit a veritable jackpot. Nearly half a billion ISK in damage inflicted, and about 150 million ISK worth of loot from various array drops. All inflicted by one guy in a stealth bomber roaming in losec just four jumps from Amarr.

What made this especially interesting is the fact that my victims seem to have been offline, or at the very least inactive on any killboards, for almost a year, so there's every indication that this stuff had just been sitting out in space, ripe for the plucking for some time.

There's content out there people. Lots of it. Right under your stinking noses!

Go find it!

NOTE: This lesson in no way invalidates Lesson 16. Lesson 20 expands upon Lesson 16, and emphasizes the importance of getting out there and finding/making content instead of waiting for it, without in any way negating the value of Lesson 16.

Corollary to Lesson 20: The loot fairy is, and forever shall be, a fickle mistress.

Lesson 21: Unanchored POS mods can be scooped by anyone who has cargo room to do so. Shortly after the incident described immediately above, I accidentally warped to the wrong moon on D-scan while looking for offline towers. I land on grid and find a full ring of medium AC batteries...but no tower. They were all unanchored and undamaged, so I hurried in my blockade runner to come scoop them, earning me a cool 20+ mil ISK. (It was a very good weekend for me.)

Whether they were left by attackers who just tanked their DPS or by the POS owners who simply left in a hurry I may never know. A small part of me will always wonder.

I just wish this could be posted in New Citizens as well. It might open some eyes to the possibilities in this game.

Bronson, would you consider doing a post for New Citizens?

When I was a new citizen all I ever read about in New Citizens Q & A was missions and mining.
