Not sure if this should go here, but i'm skimming the CSM Minutes (you can find them yourself thanks) and there is a section near the top of the document about the website and they posed a question that I truly have desire to answer. I figured it I have the urge, maybe others too and it could give ccp some insight.

For thouse of you who do not know, a few years ago CCP had this idea of making a 'Spacebook' a kind of social media platform for eve. Like a lot of there other ideas, once implemented it was kinda left to roit (sorry but it was) this was and is eve gate. You can still take a look at it, but its not used very much, at least I did not past the first week.

Anyway, CCP posed the question to the CSM what people used EVE gate for? And as CCP are making changes anyway, I just wanted to make a few notes.

The mail, and the ability to look people up is what I use it for. One of my hopes when ccp had its mobile division was them making a simple app that could be used to check and send eve mail rather quickly. A few times I had issues sending stuff via a phone.

I have used the calendar in the past, but it would be nice to share it with other groups to coordinate things easier via in game.

I also concur with the csm, news feeds, dev blogs, and maybe a way to get access to corp and alliance chat via eve gate would be a god send.

Anyway thread has no point I just wanted to talk back to the minutes as well couldn't lol

Agreed, I use it strictly for the mail at this point. I would love to be able to access at least corp chat on it.

Being able to chat in your regular chat channels through EVE Gate would be so awesome.

By their fruit you will recognize them.

EVE Gate is my main link to access EVE's splendid web presence. There's a lot there.

HOWEVER, were I to perfect EVE Gate, I'd have it digitally wash my car once a week, and my house DOES need painting! And, could you get it to send out my Christmas cards? That list has gotten SO long....

I use or have used in the past everything except The Wall. To be honest I've even stopped using Facebook's wall 7 or 8 months ago as I don't see the point of it. EVE Gate is the same as Facebook (but without spam and adds Cool) ...: it lets you view character profiles, read and send messages, view and schedule events and have a friend list. As with Facebook, the wall became obsolete for me, since I prefer a more direct contact with my in-game friends (eve mail, in-game, TS,...). Apart from the wall, it's a great and useful OOG tool.

Oh, and for general announcements we don't need the wall... that's what's General Discussion is for Lol

Thank you all for sharing your perspective of the CSM minute discussion. We would like to note that the discussion we had with the CSM is about things we want to do, but may not be in development right now or in the near future. I have however noted down the services you have referenced, and the desired vision you described for EVE Gate, and shall be sharing them with the rest of the team.

I'd like to throw in a few cents for the EVE Gate part. My corp uses doodle to plan events such as WH escalations and roams. The functionality of asking players what times they should be available and comparing that to all the others is really handy and including that in the EVE Gate / API to better inform others you play with your game time could be included into the calendar for events. Just make sure if it is, then it's as quick as something like doodle but also automatically adds the event to your calendar with notifications to remind you of it. This should all feel seamless from agreeing to join an Op, to confirming the time you will be on, to the event added to the calendar to the reminders and the notification about the Op.

Yea I saw that comment in the minutes and was like 'well wait, I have not seen any mention of eve gate in years, what if the CSM only use it one way, but a lot of players use it a different way.. hmm lets see if maybe I can help get a base line"

Based on the number or replies i'm saying a lot of players have no idea eve gate even exist or what it was for. And I agree with the others, it could be better severed as a way to coordinate and communicate with people while your out of game without the need of a third party app. I CAN tell you that the mail functionality made it worth it to me. And that could use a bit of tweeking, cause as I said, its sometimes difficult to send mail out of game with an android phone. The reply gets so small you have to move around to get before the txt you quoted. And its really hard to send a mail to someone, or a corp and or alliance, at random. Like If I type in 'Net 7' and try to send it goes.. uh no. But if I send a corp mail it works fine.
