Player Features and Ideas Discussion

Everyone knows that EVE is a social game. The core of social interaction in EVE is the fleet. Without fleets, none of EVE's high level content would be possible. Why then is the interface for creating a fleet advert so limited and obtuse? I believe it's long overdue an overhaul and will identify the problems with the existing interface below:

Problems

• "How do I make a fleet advert?" - It's very easy once you know how, but there are no prompts or tutorials to explain the process at the moment.

• Those filters!

1. Some of the filters are named misleadingly
2. others have bad tooltips
3. some filters are pointless and never get used
4. some very obvious and useful filter options are missing entirely!

Solutions

• When a new fleet is created, the fleet boss should be prompted by a pop-up to create a fleet advert.


• The first time a player creates a fleet advert, there should be a brief tutorial to explain everything


• "Open Fleet to My Corporation" should be renamed to "Restrict Fleet to My Corporation" which is what it actually does!


• The tooltip for "Based on Standings" currently reads "Invite pilots outside my selection" and should be changed to something that makes more sense. Naturally, you DON'T WANT pilots outside your selection to see your advert at all!


• Nobody ever uses security status as a filter for pilots. Just get rid of that option.


• There are 2 separate filters for standings. If they actually perform different functions, then it needs to be made much more obvious. If they don't, get rid of 1 of them.


• All filters based on standings should come with options to use personal, corp or alliance standings!


• Public communities would benefit hugely from an option to make adverts visible to "people in chat channel X"
