The Phoebe release introduces a lot of good change and that includes also improvements to mission running with a new mission objective guidance system. This new system aids people in completing missions they have accepted by giving hints on what to do next to progress or complete the mission.

The system was designed with the goals to have it as unobtrusive as possible and also not to spoon-fed mission runners by giving too many obvious instructions.

Read ahead and check out CCP SoniClover's latest dev blog Guiding Light: The Mission Objective Guidance system for all the juicy information on this new system!

\o/ (firstest!)

Now, after having read the thing... ^^

This is a great change - I do not run missions THAT often, but when I do, I often have the dialog with the agent displayed all the time to precisely know when an objective has been completed. Seems like soon I can admire my spaceship instead as there is one window less cluttering the view.

Good, now get to work on a more dynamic system so that mission PVE (that most players are exposed to) in this game isn't mind-numbingly boring

At first glance, it seems like a pretty nice balance.

I remember first starting out with missions and having to go back a couple times because I didn't know why the mission wasn't marked as complete yet. A simple, easy to see indicator of your current objective is pretty great.

Thanks!

Can someone at CCP PLEASE for the love of god go through all the trouble tickets and just fix all the issues that we have with missions?! Is that really such a hard thing to ask? How many tickets have I had to submit for standing issues related to the the epic ars?! TOO MANY.

Great start! How about voice over and missions that encourage more players to work together as a fleet rather then solo missions. Maybe a modifier to rewards instead of splitting the rewards?

The mission system is an old bastard in many ways and creating a generic system to cover all the ancient snowflakes still floating around in it is far from easy.

Would it be a better usage of time to forward-port all of the older-style special snowflake missions into a more modern format?

I seem to remember you guys getting new mission authoring tools a few years ago, so put them to use! If you have to completely drop a few of the missions that can't be ported no one is going to complain.

I think there is no such thing (yet). They would love to have that though.

I like to think that CCP Karkur watching me fail at doing missions was in some way an inspiration for this.

neato, hope it works for running 13 courier missions at once as well.

Ha, It's been a while playing for me and yesterday I decided to try out some missions. Ironically I asked in chat where's the icon in the upper left to show the mission has been completed lol. Green check mark is cool or just a green human silhouette in the upper left would suffice.Smile

Honestly, this kind of stuff I never had a problem with anyway.

You could make a huuuuuuge improvement from my point of view though:

Right now you have to:

open pull down

start conversation

complete mission

close conversation/start new mission

Can you just turn that green arrow into a button that completes the mission if all conditions are met? Especially for courier missions that would be really nice. Because I always started multiple at once, optimized the route and then always had to look through the conversations to find the proper one to complete.

Oh right also:

" ...but should not be completely brain-dead instructions to follow."

I can pretend for you that they aren't but please don't go and interpret that as if they really aren't.

So where do you stand on this one? The changes are nice. But you should think about redesigning pve. But you know that.

When I ran "Cutthroat Competition" I was jammed by NPCs for the first time. I had no idea what to do to counter it. This new system wouldn't, I think, tell me what to do in this unusual situation. It could, perhaps, be addressed with flavor text in the mission description: "You may encounter jamming ships; you should fit a [name of racial ECCM module] or two to help counteract them."

It was a seriously frustrating situation to be jammed out, with no idea what to do. In the end, I googled, found the page on eve-survival and followed their direction. A less patient new player might have just rage-quit the game instead.

Meh ... still circling around the lack of updates and new content for mission for 6 or 7 years ... Really sad in my opinion and that fluff and updates of UI and frigate missions isn't cutting it after all this time.

PVE need so love really bad and just isn't coming band aid solution to appease the mass once in a while but really doesn't change much.

Disappointing at best.
