when I heard the name I imagine Judge Dredd flying a tempest and killing criminals in low sec.

I'll probably go on a final rampage with my shiny stuff if EVE is ever being shut down for good.
Either that or I die before that and my stuff will become legend, myth, and eventually be forgotten. Many centuries later someone might stumble upon a reference to this game and my collection on some website that preserves old sites, etc ;)

Collecting and getting things blown up are sadly mutually exclusive.

So we've been discussing this internally, and we'd like to reassure you that the battleship skins that are on Singularity right now are a part of an ongoing test that we're running for both Tranquility and Serenity. The skins are not all scheduled to be released as items on Tranquility. The item list of what's available might also differ between TQ and Serenity going forward, because of the two very different markets we're catering for. We're wary about the performance implications (particularly the video memory footprint) with the current system for medium to large scale fights, so we're looking at testing on SiSi with a big pile of skins.

We need to gather both more performance data and user feedback on the features that we're working on for both skinning and customization capabilities before we commit more resources to making more skins to the game. As a part of our testing efforts we do author different types for no purpose other than testing, although some will be directed to the store and some will be recreated through a different process as development opportunities for customization get clearer.

On a personal note, I know that there's a lot of skins and ships that you guys see as being part of EVE's history and heritage, and don't want to see being abused or used for moneymaking purposes.

I'm right there with you, and don't believe we should sully EVE's history, and the history of some of our most famous and unique hulls by effectively putting replicas up for sale.

I'll be working with our monetization guys to ensure that this doesn't happen, and that TQ stays true to its history and roots.

That's a shame, because, as you've probably seen, the public reception for those skins was overwhelmingly positive.

Collectively we want marauder skins, apparently. And these really shouldn't impact performance during medium & large fights, because who the hell uses maurauders in fleets ?
